Allergy Season:
We are in the season where pollen is in the air and this can trigger allergic reactions in some students. Common symptoms include sneezing, itching, nasal congestion and watery eyes. It is essential that these symptoms are treated at home and appropriate medication is given. We do not treat students for allergies, please be sure to give allergy medication at home the night before or the morning of, if it doesn’t cause drowsiness. Allergy symptoms can trigger asthma symptoms in some individuals. It is important that you manage your asthma at home according to your orders and work closely with your family doctor to develop a treatment plan. If you have not already done so, please send MED 1, Asthma Action Plan and Asthma Rescue medication. Medication must be in it’s original package with the child's name, doctor’s name, medication name, instructions for administration and expiration date.
All medications to be given in school must have a Medication 1 Form from the doctor. Any medications that are changed (type or dosage, or times) must have a new Medication 1 form. Medications will be administered according to doctors orders only. Rescue inhalers are the inhalers that are administered at school (i.e. albuterol). The school nurse does not administer steroids or asthma daily medications. These medications must be given before and after school. Only rescue medications are given as needed.
