Celebrate Leap Day with a leap of joy! On Thursday, as we leap into the extra day of the 2024 leap year, let's all wear green to celebrate the joy of the frogs who gracefully leap and remind us that even in the leap, life can be brilliantly green.

LMDES Renovation Update
The next phase of our limited renovation is nearly complete! The classrooms look amazing!
The following classes will be moving into renovated spaces this week:
- 4th Grade: Deighan, Killion, Mileto
- 3rd Grade: Frill, Jilek, Kemp, Repenning
The following classes will be moving into the learning cottages while their spaces are renovated:
- 2nd Grade: Cox, Davis, Rackey
The next phase of our renovation is scheduled to begin on Monday, March 4.
5th Grade MISA
The Maryland Integrated Science Assessment (MISA) is administered to all students in fifth grade, eighth grade, and high school. The MISA is aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
LMDES 5th graders will participate in the MISA on March 5-6 (Tues, Wed) and March 12-13 (Tues, Wed). Testing begins at 9:30 and will conclude by 11:00am.

Conscious Discipline Virtual Workshop Series - March 5
St. Mary’s County Public Schools (SMCPS) is offering a series of Conscious Discipline workshops to Pre-Kindergarten families, Kindergarten families, and local childcare providers.
Participants will learn how to implement effective routines that utilize strategies based on brain science to foster self-regulation skills. These live virtual evening sessions will allow you to interact with a Conscious Discipline Master Instructor from the comfort of your home from 6:00-7:00 p.m.

Childhood Nutrition & Healthy Eating
Nutrition is closely linked to overall physical health and is a correlate of academic performance. Meeting both nutritional and physical activity recommendations together is associated with higher academic performance.

Black History Month
Each February we celebrate Black History Month. Black History Month was instituted to focus attention on the contributions of African Americans to the United States. It honors all Black people from all periods of U.S. History. In honor of Black History Month, our students hear daily announcements highlighting the inspirational stories and contributions of African Americans.
This year's theme for Black History Month is "African Americans and the Arts," which includes visual arts, music, dance, media art, theater, and more. Visit the February 2024 page of the Equity for All SMCPS Website.

Technology Information
Student Laptops
All SMCPS laptops come with the same responsibility of care and upkeep as any other loaned resources. Textbooks, novels, laptops and chargers can incur a debt if lost or damaged. Please refer to the student accountability newsletter that will be included in each weekly school newsletter.

Schoology is the SMCPS Learning Management System (LMS).
Schoology has a Mobile App!

New families that did not receive the notification about their Schoology Parent Account should email schoology@smcps.org to inquire about their account.
