OUUC Weekly Update
March 4, 2025

Sunday Worship March 9
“The Speed of Trust” with Rev. Sara Lewis
There is a saying that if you want to go fast, go alone, and if you want to go far, go together. But as soon as we are trying to move together, we are limited by the amount of trust that we have in one another. How do we build skills of trust that will help us move forward together in our work for a healthy, just, and loving world?
Note: This is the Sunday when we spring forward for Daylight Savings Time and lose an hour, so that means it’s Pajama Sunday at OUUC! Feel free to wear your pjs to church whether you’re online or onsite.
After-Service Forum at 12:15 pm: Building Community Connections — Faith in Action Leadership Team.

Important Notice about our Stewardship Communication
Dear Members and Friends:
This is an important notice about our Stewardship Communication.
We have discovered a typo in the address listed on our Stewardship communication mailed two weeks ago. We left out one digit on the street address. If you are mailing in your Stewardship pledge on the provided pledge card, please be sure to use the following address:
OUUC
2306 East End St. NW
Olympia, WA 98502
Our apologies for this mistake. Most of our pledges arrive electronically; however, if you have mailed in your pledge card and used an address other than the one above, please call us or email to let us know.
Phone: 360-634-2005, Ext. 100
Email: office@ouuc.org
Stewardship is both a practical act and a spiritual practice. We know that it takes all of us to support this congregation we love. It takes all of us to provide the resources that pay our staff and our bills. And we know that joining our individual resources to do this is a profound act of community.
Please make your pledge this month as we come together to lift the community we love. At last weeks’ service Dieter Jacobs, board member, told us why OUUC is so important in his life: “The focus on community, the acceptance of others, the thoughtful reflection, the discussion of ideas. Good people, coming together in a loving community.”
Thank you!
The OUUC Stewardship Committee

SWIFT Mass Deportation Update
SWIFT (Siding With Immigrant Families Together) is OUUC's anti-mass deportation group. We will post signs around our building to inform immigration officials that our building is private space. Trump revoked longstanding protections for sanctuary spaces but is being challenged in court by the UUA and others. In the meantime, the signs will remind us and inform immigration where we stand.
Interfaith Works developed A Covenant to Protect the Sanctity of Sacred Spaces. OUUC, Rev. Gear, and others of us have signed the Covenant. You can view and sign it here.
See our statement on mass deportation here.
On April 6, at 12:15pm, the Strengthening Sanctuary Alliance will offer Know Your Rights training at OUUC. This will be in-person and on Zoom. We'll learn who's at risk under the new regime and how to assert the rights we and immigrants have when encountering deportation action.
We are investigating ways to help schools protect vulnerable students and their families. If you have connections with school districts, let us know. OSPI just issued strong guidance here. We continue to learn and work to counter mass deportation. To join us, contact Steve Tilley.
Help Support Unitarian High School Choir Tour
The youth choir of the Janos Zsigmond Unitarian High School of Kolozsvár, Romania will be touring in the US during April, 2025. They need our support.
Unfortunately, they won't be coming to the west coast, you can see their itinerary, downloadable below. Travelers from OUUC will visit the high school when we go on our pilgrimage this fall.
The UUA and the Hungarian Unitarian Church are providing some support and more help is needed. To donate:
- Go to this site.
- In the menu bar on top find the Hungarian flag, click on the flag, and change language to English
- At the extreme top right you’ll see the “Donation” button, clicking that will bring up the option to click on the link, "Choir Tour in the United States."
- This will bring up the interface to enter your information and the amount you want to donate. You can change the Currency to "USA," using the drop down button for this field.
Your help will be greatly appreciated!
Pastoral Care Team
The Pastoral Care Team members serve as an extension of Rev. Mary's care of the congregation, which is especially important and needed as we grow. Rev. Mary invites team members based on their professional and life experience, as well as their caring heart and presence. The team members also continue their learning and growth together as they serve.
Ours is a ministry of loving presence, as we listen to the words that need to be spoken. We provide short or long term social/emotional, one-to-one care to members and friends. We work as a team, with a lead member assigned to each request to ensure consistency.
If you would like support from the Pastoral Care Team, you can identify members on Sunday mornings or at other church events by looking for the green Pastoral Care stoles they wear. If you are not physically at church, you can reach out via email here, and a team member will get back to you shortly to see how they can be of service.
Your Pastoral Care Team members are: Debra Dohrmann, Beth Johnson, Susan Joy, Bobbe Murray, Polly Taylor, Pam Turner, and Woody Woodson.

Quick Notes
Please take extra care to leave church spaces better than you found them after use.
Beware of periodic scammers via email and text. You may be contacted by scammers impersonating Rev. Mary or other church staff. Scammers also try to reach people via text. Often, they will ask for you to contact them right away, and they may ask for financial assistance/information or contact information of others at the church. Always double check and make sure the email or text was sent from a source you recognize. Scammers will create new addresses that appear like a known email address. When in doubt, check in with the person in your life who appears to be trying to contact you, using a known contact method.
Download the flyer below if you would like a list of OUUC events for March. Great for posting on your refrigerator!
