October 11, 2024
From the Principal
Dear Aquin Families,
Thank you for all your donations for Hurricane Helene victims. With the help of all of the Pearl City Student Leaders, the Aquin Legacy Student Leaders, Pearl City families, Aquin families and our surrounding community members, we were able to send over a thousand items to Canton, North Carolina. The pictures below are of the first trailer that was filled and driven to Fort Wayne, IN where it was transferred to the other trailer pictured (it's all under the brown tarp to protect it from the elements). It is amazing to see what an impact one small community can have for another. I know that the donations will be appreciated! Please continue to keep them in your prayers, as well as all the other people affected by the recent hurricanes.
Next week is a short week with Monday and Tuesday being holidays for the students. The following week is Parent Teacher Conferences. Students were given letters with your appointment times on them this week. If you did not receive yours, please contact Mrs. Gaulrapp in the office.
Have a great weekend!
Mrs. Heitkamp

Empowering God's Children
Each year the State of Illinois requires us to teach students a safety program to help them identify and protect themselves against sexual abuse. The Diocese of Rockford uses the Empowering God's Children program, by Virtus, to fulfill this requirement. This is the third year we have been using this program. We will be teaching the program over the course of the next several weeks.
The goal of the program is to teach students to be able to identify the private areas of their bodies, what boundaries should exist regarding those areas, to identify safe adults and what to do if someone does not respect their boundaries. The lessons cater to each grade level based on what is age appropriate for them. I am including the overview brochure for you to review.
As a parent, you have the ability to opt your child out of these lessons. If you would like to do so, you need to send back the "Opt Out" form with your signature by October 16th. We will have your child step out of the classroom during the lesson and return when it is complete.
Please reach out if you have any questions.
