Obeying God When You Don't Understand
I read an article this week on obeying God even when His rule(s) don't make sense to you at the time. in the article, Rachel Gilson makes an important point, "After all, we all want to agree before we obey. And before agreement comes understanding—the embrace of the rationale.
In many cases, acting this way is reasonable, even wise. But in some instances, it’s how we make ourselves God."
I don't know about you but I tend to be rather rebellious as my default. our culture goes through much of the same thing. Each of us is tasked with the question, "It might have been good for them in their time but is this command from God still relevant to me today? And if it is, how can I know that it is?" The interesting thing in this scenario is that the individual has made right or wrong about himself/herself rather than on what he/she knows about God. If God is good and all knowing and truly wants the best for my life as I serve him, then how could anything that he asks me to do be irrelevant? The world would have you and I believe that everything is centered around us and is determined by us, but the truth is, it has always been all about God. We are to align our life with his will for us not choose what we want to follow like an item line in a buffet. As Rachel puts it, "I can trust this person. He’s proven forever that he has my good at heart, that he loves me—so much so that he paid a scandalous personal cost. Outside of a relationship with this person, I can’t take the risk of trusting what goes against my cultural instincts. But as I know him more and more—his power, his intelligence, his goodness, his love—I can trust. I can obey. Even before I understand; even if I never quite do." I have included a link to the article below. God Bless!!!!!
