Nourishing Change
Part 2
Walk For Water- Nourishing Change- Clean Water and Sanitation for All
Thank you so much to all of the families who helped to make our experience with Walk for Water a success. Not only did all of our students experience an Empathy Walk in honor of World Water Day, ECMCS Walk for Water team had 43 members and raised a total of $1,850! We are so proud to belong to a school community that takes action to meet the needs of others so selflessly.
Lowcountry Blessing Box Project - Nourishing Change - Zero Hunger - Food for All
Dear Amazing ECMCS Families,
We may be quickly approaching the end of the school year, but we are not done creating change within our communities.
During our work with Water Missions we were focusing on The UN’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #6, Clean Water and Sanitation for All. Part 2 of our project will be focusing on SDG #2, Zero Hunger and Human Right #25, Food and Shelter for All.
During vacations from school, kids who normally eat breakfast and lunch at school may be missing out on these meals at home. About half of our students (25,000) that attend Charleston County Schools rely on school for breakfast and lunch daily during the school year. During breaks it can be stressful for these students not knowing where these meals are going to come from and it can be a financial hardship on families. School vacations can lead to food insecurity for some families but, we can help to bridge this nutritional gap! We will be collaborating with the Lowcountry Blessing Box Project.
Blessing Boxes are anonymous donation sites (outdoor cabinets) stocked with non-perishable food items, basic toiletries, baby supplies, and anything else that might be considered a blessing to someone who finds themselves in need. A simple rule applies - Leave what you can, take what you need. Modeled after Little Free Libraries, this effort began in the Spring of 2017 and has grown into a movement that covers South Carolina's Lowcountry and beyond.
Action Steps
ECMCS Middle School students are going to build a Blessing Box that will be located right outside the fence on our school's campus. Each student will paint a Kindness Rock with a word of encouragement to help decorate and stabilize the outdoor cabinet.
How can you help? We are going to stock the Lowcountry Blessing Box Pantries. Would you be willing to send in items to help us reach our goal of stocking our own Blessing Box and those located around our area? We will present the local founder with items when she comes in to speak to our students and we will keep items to stock our Blessing Box. Thank you for your continued generosity and support!
Drop off items beginning Monday 1 in the foyer outside the Front Office or in the Annex foyer.
