Welcome to the Latest Edition of Tap Into Maple Run!
Each week, we highlight the moments that make our district a place of learning, connection, and growth. From student achievements to meaningful community partnerships, it is inspiring to see the dedication of our staff, students, and families in action.
Engaging with Our Community
This past Monday, January 27, marked an important milestone as our community hosted our first Legislative Breakfast at Saint Albans City Hall, bringing together leaders and community members to discuss the future of education in our district. Thoughtful conversations like these help shape the policies and initiatives that support our students and staff.
Meanwhile, at SATEC, first graders participated in a Play & Stay event after school, filling the space with laughter and joy. It was wonderful to see students relaxed, engaged, and having fun with their peers and teachers.
Advocacy & Partnership in Action
On Wednesday, January 29, our NCTC students, along with many Maple Run staff members, participated in the 10th Annual Mental Health Advocacy Day in Montpelier. Whether attending in person or remotely, their involvement in this important event emphasized the critical role of mental health awareness and advocacy in education.
The following evening, Thursday, January 30, we saw the strength of our community partnerships at the Community Summit at City Hall. This event brought together a diverse group of voices, all working toward a shared goal of strengthening our Maple Run community. The turnout and engagement were a testament to the collective effort of so many invested in our schools and students.
Ending the Week with Smiles
Friday, January 31, was all about fun at St. Albans City School, where first and second graders, along with their families, enjoyed a Beach Party filled with music, laughter, and excitement. These moments of joy and connection remind us of the importance of creating spaces where students can thrive socially and emotionally.
Looking Ahead
As we move forward, I encourage everyone to stay engaged in upcoming district events and initiatives. Your involvement helps shape the future of Maple Run, and I am grateful for the continued support of our incredible community.
Thank you for being a part of this journey. Together, we are making a difference!
Spotlight on Fairfield Center School: Stacey Tully & Kelsey Malboeuf
In Episode 19 of the "Tap Into Maple Run" podcast, John and I had the pleasure of sitting down with Stacey Tully, Literacy Specialist, and Kelsey Malboeuf, Principal, from Fairfield Center School. Their deep dedication to the school, its students, and the Fairfield community was evident throughout our conversation.
A Strong Foundation in Fairfield
Kelsey Malboeuf’s journey at Fairfield Center School is one of deep-rooted commitment. Now in her fourth year as principal and 16th year at the school, she has worn many hats—starting as a paraeducator, then moving into classroom teaching as a second-grade teacher, later serving as a special educator, and now leading the school as principal. Growing up in Fairfield and attending the University of Vermont, Kelsey has never lived outside of Vermont, cherishing the strong community ties that define Fairfield Center School.
Stacey Tully, on the other hand, brings a wealth of experience from 36 years in education, with 26 of those at Fairfield Center School. Her career began in Rotterdam, NY, where she taught at the very same elementary school she attended as a child. After gaining experience in Virginia, she eventually found her way to Fairfield, where she now serves as a Literacy Interventionist, EST Coordinator, and SEL Coordinator.
Fairfield’s Unique MTSS Support System
One of the most impressive aspects of Fairfield Center School is its multi-tiered system of support (MTSS), which ensures that each student gets the individualized academic, social, and emotional support they need. With a small student population of approximately 250, the school fosters a close-knit, personalized environment where "everyone knows everyone’s name." Stacey and Kelsey emphasized the importance of project-based learning, which allows students to engage deeply with their education while developing critical thinking and real-world problem-solving skills.
Fairfield Center School is also known for its strong community involvement. Families and community members are always welcome, and the school prioritizes creating a warm, inclusive environment that values collaboration between students, staff, and the broader community.
Beyond the Classroom
Outside of their work, both Stacey and Kelsey share a passion for shopping and exercise, finding balance in their professional and personal lives. Their dedication to their students and staff is clear, and their enthusiasm for Fairfield’s learning environment is truly inspiring.
We encourage you to listen to Episode 19 of "Tap Into Maple Run" on Spotify or Apple Podcasts to hear more about Fairfield Center School’s unique approach to student success and community engagement.
