From the Tech Tribe

laptop and IPad reminders:
Happy spring! As we approach spring, I'm excited to see all of the opportunities presented to students with the integration of technology in the classroom. However, it is becoming clear that many of the students are not taking care of the device, and not bringing them to the tech building for repair. May I recommend that if you see a pattern of a student not bringing the device, that you reach out to the parent.
Maybe you want to copy and paste the following on your Dojos or email the parents. I wanted us all to be on the same page considering we have a lot of new staff.
Laptop Care
Now that every student in the district is responsible for their own laptop, they are also responsible for the care of that device. Every laptop provided comes with a case. If your student lost their case, it is expected that they will get a new protective case on their own. This case is part of the responsibility of taking care of the device. I have had an overwhelmingly inquiries of what to do if the laptop or IPAD is broken, I do not fix them. If the laptop is broken, it is the student and their family’s responsibility to take it to:
- 15 East Marshall Street, Hempstead, NY 11550
- Same applies to the IPADS!
They will assign a temporary device and fix their device. If they deem it was the fault of the student, families will have to replace the device. A payment plan can be made. If it is a problem with the device itself, for example, the operating system isn't available, they will not be charged.
- If you get a new student, I will need their first and last name and their id# in an email so that credentials can be created. When you hear back with credentials, you can send them to me.
- Please remind students the day they are discharging that they will need to return the device, charger, and case, or they will be charged to replace them.
Taking Care of your Laptops and IPADS Tips:
- Keep your laptop on a flat surface. Laptops should never be placed on the floor or shoved in the desks.
- Laptops and food do not mix! Always keep food and drinks away from the device to avoid accidental spills and crumbs.
- Plug in your Laptops in each night. Please find a safe location in the house where this is done and make it part of the evening routine.
- If you are having problems with the laptop outside of breaks, report to Ms. Randazzo right away.
- When carrying the Laptops and IPADS, close them first. Walking around with an open laptop or IPAD makes it more prone to damage in an accidental fall.
- Bring them to school EVERY day, this is part of your learning.
