School Newsletter Term 2, Week 6
Friday 7th June 2024
Kia ora Koutou,
I hope this newsletter finds you well and enjoying the brisk winter season. As we reach the midpoint of the term, there are several exciting updates and achievements I am thrilled to share with you.
Firstly, I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to our interschool cross-country team, who have represented our school with exceptional effort and sportsmanship. Our athletes demonstrated not only their physical prowess but also the values we have at West End School. Each student gave their best effort on the course, and we are immensely proud of their hard work and achievements.
In addition to our sporting achievements, we recently held a Teacher Only Day with a particular emphasis on enhancing our understanding of the science of teaching. The focus of the day was on drilling down into teaching strategies to make learning more engaging and effective for our students. Our dedicated teachers participated in workshops and collaborative planning sessions, sharing best practices and exploring new resources. The enthusiasm and commitment to continuous improvement were certainly visible throughout the day. I am confident that the benefits of this professional development will be reflected in the classroom.
We are also delighted to have EPIC Music join our school recently. Their team provided a series of dynamic and engaging music lessons, which were met with great enthusiasm by our students. The sessions not only enhanced our music curriculum but also provided a wonderful opportunity for students to explore their musical talents and interests. A big thank you to EPIC Music for their time and expertise.
As always, I want to thank our entire school community for your continued support and involvement in our school activities. Your engagement and encouragement are crucial to our students' success and the vibrant community spirit we all play a part in building.
Disco - today
Space Disco - Friday 7th June
We will be having a new way of school discoing! We will have 2 separate discos - our Junior Disco for NE-Y4 children and the Senior Disco for Y3-Y6 children. Those Y3/4 students (Puāwaitanga) can choose if they want to go to the Junior or Senior disco.
Our Junior Disco will run from 3pm - 4pm in our school hall. Parents - you can collect your children at 4pm (we will be getting children into classes and waiting for you to take them home).
Our Senior Disco will run from 4.30pm and finish at 5.45pm - where we will organise your children into classes and release them when you have come to collect them.
Tickets can be purchased at the door. $5 each. If children have a costume, they will have time to get changed in class, or if parents want to bring their costume in for after school you are welcome.
Senior Camp
Matariki 2024
PE at West End School
Interschool Cross Country.
Well done to those who competed on Wednesday at the Interschool Cross Country. We had a mixture of results with our top placing in the senior boys, with Connor Gear claiming 15th and Isaac Kangisher claiming 13th. All fields were larger than 100 students from the Manawatu.
Tipuranga, Riverdale Exchange
On the 18th of June, we are excited to be hosting Riverdale for some tabloid sports. This time we will not be having Whānau to support, however lots of photos will be shared.
Term 2 Report Information
From Week 8 this term, you will receive your child’s report. Between Weeks 8 - 10, these will be sent as 4 seperate Seesaw posts. They will include…
Comments about your child’s progress and achievement for reading, writing, maths, as well as a general comment relating to their attitude, behaviour and showing our school values.
You will see what stage or level your child is achieving at, and there will be a comment from the teacher about your child’s achievement.
There will also be an example of your child’s work to show the progress they have made in that area.
Here is an example of what it will look like.
Reminders and more information will follow in Week 8 of this term.
