Wiggin Street Parent Update
August 9, 2021
Welcome
We have lots of new faces which is unusual at Wiggin Street, but it's bringing a new energy to the building. I've included pictures and bios of our new staff members in this update. Also Lisa Parker has moved from her 4th grade teaching position to our Grades 3-5 Reading Specialist position.
This is probably the longest parent update that you will receive this school year, but it's packed with lots of information to help you and your child have a successful start to the school year. Thank you for trusting us with your children each day, and please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to getting to know you all better.
Have a great rest of your summer!
Warmly,
Christy Grandstaff

Open House
Our teachers are busy getting their rooms ready to greet students at our Open House on August 17th 6:00-7:30pm. This will be an informal meet and greet and opportunity for students to bring in their supplies. I will be available outside the office and look forward to meeting you, so please stop by to say hello. There will not be a formal meeting in the gym this year.
Pick Up and Drop Off
For pick up, please do not arrive until 3:30. There is no stopping, standing, or parking on E. Brooklyn St. allowed, and you will be ticketed. Also, our school is an Idle-free zone. So, please protect our children and the community by turning off your engine.
Children need to be picked up by 3:45. We appreciate your cooperation and efforts to help this process run smoothly. Thank you!

Summer Reading Program
All MVCSD Elementary Schools participated in the Summer Reading Olympics Program this summer. There is still time to get some reading in and don't forget to send us pictures of your child reading for the Summer Reading assembly slideshow! Please email them to Anne @ aphillips@mvcsd.us or myself @ cgrandstaff@mvcsd.us.
Information and the reading log is attached, and there are extra reading logs available in the Little Free Library in front of the school, along with many good books to read! Please feel free to take a book home to read or donate!
Please keep track of your child's reading using the log, and reading logs need to be turned in at the start of the 2021-22 school year. Wiggin Street School will also reward our summer readers who meet their "Gold" level with a special Water Fun Day, an afternoon of exciting water games during the school day!
