Hello Singer Families (one final time!),
This is my final letter as your President before I pass the baton to Rachel Gellman, your 2024-25 PTA President. I'll keep it short, since everyone's attention span is teetering on empty. I get it. We're at the point of the year where we wish for our kids every morning .... "can you please make it through the next three weeks without losing one more water bottle??? "
I'm grateful to everyone in our community who pitched in to make this year a success. It's always a pleasure to get to work with Mr. Heatwole and Mr. McKinley, and for those of you who were brave enough to raise your hands and volunteer for something new, it was a real pleasure getting to know you. For those of you who don't know Rachel yet, you're gonna love her. She loves the school, has ideas for new things, and she's going to be a great next President!
The Singer community is a special place, and we had a good year! We raised the money, we did good things with it, and we continue to leave things just a little better than how we found them. Now it's time to go enjoy your summers! Get in the water with your kids. Put your phones down and go to a Thunderbolts game. Take a bike ride. Surprise them at noon and get ice cream for lunch. Middle school will be here before you know it, and the magic of these elementary years .... well, it's just a whole different kind of magic after this.
And to my 5th grade families, you know what they say about new beginnings. .... "Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end."
Cheers, Singer!
Beth
Updates for Next Year's PTA
Thank you to the folks who have already come forward to volunteer for PTA board positions for the 2024-25 year. Maura Davis (President-Elect) and Christine Riley (Recording Secretary) both won their votes unanimously in person and with 15 votes online at the May 15th PTA general meeting.
Many congratulations to the winners of the Volunteer of the Year Award for their service this year!
Julie Roddin for multiple roles and all her hard work around the silent auction, teacher appreciation, and more
Michelle Grier as Treasurer overseeing the PTA financials and compliance
It truly takes a village to keep all the incredible activities, fundraising, and thoughtful giving going by the PTA. Both of these incredible volunteers are "graduating" out of Flora Singer and it is time to pass the baton to younger families.
Consider volunteering next year - you'll get to know the school staff and teachers and get a better understanding of your kids' school lives through this engagement. The following positions are still open:
Treasurer Elect
MCCPTA Representative
Singer Needs
Directory Coordinator (trainee)
Parent Social Coordinator
Please reach out to next year's President, Rachel Gellman, for more information about opportunities, and description of the roles: rgellman36@gmail.com.
Provide Input for your child's next school year!
Mr. Heatwole explained the process of forming classroom assignments each year at the May 15 PTA meeting. The schools values parental input on classroom placement. Current grade teachers will make suggestions on groupings. Over the summer, Mr. Heatwole and staff will make adjustments and assign teachers.

Get excited for End of Year Picnic! June 7, 2024 at 6 pm
The end of the school year will be upon us before we know it!
The PTA sponsored end-of-year picnic on June 7th at 6 pm in McKenny Hills Park next to the school. There will be food trucks and opportunities to let loose end celebrate making it through another school year!
In case of inclement weather, the picnic will be canceled and not rescheduled.
Singer Swag Store Live!
Thanks to everyone who ordered Spiritwear products through the 2024 Flash Sale! Your shopping raised over $200 for the PTA. Products will be delivered to student backpacks over the next few days.
We’re excited to announce an On-Demand online store is now available so you can shop for Singer Swag at any time during the year. The store ships to your home and has more products available including shorts and hats for the summer, pajama pants and tote bags. Select from three great Flora M. Singer designs and three color options (purple, black or grey). And back by popular demand is a tie dye option for t-shirts and a hoodie!
Resource for Parents of a Child with Food Allergies
It can be nerve-wracking navigating a new school environment for your child who may have severe food allergies and carries an Epi-Pen.
Many thanks to parent Elyssa Monzack for creating and sharing this helpful resource for parents of a child with food allergies entering Flora Singer Elementary.
Congratulations to the April winner - Ms. Kayla Sui.
“We love Mrs. Sui! She’s helped my kid so much during this year. She is always in great spirit to provide support and finds new ways to accommodate students that need extra help. She went above and beyond to support a student whose family was going through a very difficult time.”
