New EVOLV Safety System
On January 21st we began using the EVOLV Safety System in our elementary schools. The students have done a fabulous job with these! Our morning arrival time has not been affected and the students have adapted well. We have noticed that rolling bookbags do set off the system every morning. If your child has a rolling bookbag, you may want to consider switching to a non-rolling bookbag so that they don't have to stop for a bag check every day. If you need assistance in getting a non-rolling bookbag, please let us know.
Visitors to ACA should also expect to go through our EVOLV system prior to entering the school.

Magnet Update: Communication and Leadership at ACA
Students did a great job learning about GROWTH. They have been talking about areas in which they want to grow, whether at school or at home, and how they can plan and practice in order to be successful. During the month of February our leadership value focus will be on ATTITUDE. Students will be learning that our attitude is a choice and that choice can affect how we handle different situations. We always have the ability to adjust our attitudes to help us be more successful.
Valentine Parties and Policies
Valentine Parties are student-only events. Please wait for communication from your child's teacher in regards to any treats to be sent in. All food items should be store-bought with a list of ingredients attached so that we can ensure they are safe for students with allergies. No food items with nuts please!
We are unable to accept any deliveries for students in the front office. Please do not bring or send in any balloons or flowers as we are not equipped to house or deliver such items to students during the school day.
Valentine's Day is a great day to remind our children to be inclusive and to show all of our classmates and friends that we care about them.
Hug-A-Grams
Student Council will be selling Hug-A-grams from now until February 7, while supplies last.
The Hug-A-Grams cost $2.00 and will consist of a Valentine Rubber Duck and a pack of Gummy snacks. They will be delivered on Thursday, February 13. All proceeds will be donated to a local charity. Students may purchase Hug-A-Grams from the Student Council table each morning while supplies last.
Field Trip Reminders
Please remember that students attending field trips must return their signed permission slips on time. Only parents that are pre-approved chaperones that have completed the background check are allowed to attend. This should be arranged with the teacher prior to the field trip. Parents not completing the volunteer application in a timely manner may not be able to chaperone. Students attending the field trip should wear their ACA blue t-shirts. Please do not bring Stanley cups or large water bottles on the trip as there is no where to store them or anyone to carry them all from place to place. Plastic water bottles and disposable lunch bags are best.

Classroom Spotlight is on FIRST Grade This Month
Mrs. Morgan's Class
Mrs. Morgan's class has been busy honing their math skills. We are working on grouping tens and learning about place value.
Mrs. Grube's Class
Mrs. Grube's class is working on our new math topic: place value. Students are learning how to use base-ten blocks to build number models. They are also learning to look at a model and write the numeral. We are really enjoying this topic!
Mrs. Blackwell's Class
Mrs. Blackwell’s class has been experimenting with light. We used flashlights to look for opaque, transparent and translucent objects.
Mrs. Amill's Class
Mrs. Amill's class has been working hard on writing their very own imaginative narrative stories! We have some really great authors and illustrators in our class! I am so proud of their hard work!
Mrs. Griffith's Class
This month in Math we have been learning all about counting to 120, recognizing patterns on the 120's chart, and showing groups of tens and ones using manipulatives. We worked together to match groups of tens and ones with the correct number using a number puzzle. Students have been hard at work and have learned so much about tens and ones and relating it to other concepts we have learned thus far in first grade Math.
Mrs. Emory's Class
Mrs. Emory’s class works with partners to read a text focused on the phonics skills they’re working on that week. Students look and highlight words that follow the pattern and then read the text together.
