An Update from Hough Elementary

Gratitude paper chains are displayed around the building and will help us remember that we have many special people and things in our lives. This month at Hough Street School, our Character Strong theme is Gratitude! We’re focusing on the importance of recognizing and appreciating the people, experiences, and things that bring joy and meaning into our lives. Gratitude can be a powerful way to shift our perspective and build positive relationships. Throughout the month, students will have opportunities to practice expressing gratitude by sharing what they are thankful for on a colorful strip of paper and adding it to our colorful gratitude chain. Practicing gratitude not only strengthens our school community but also helps students develop empathy, resilience, and a positive mindset. We encourage you to join us in celebrating gratitude at home by talking about the big and small things you’re thankful for together. Thank you for your support in helping us build a community where gratitude shines!

Thank you to all families for purchasing tickets to this Friday's Variety Show. We are sold out! If you would like to have premium seating on Friday night, the PTO is having a raffle for 4 front row tickets. Two winners will be selected and all raffle proceeds will support the Hough playground. Raffle tickets are $5 each or five tickets for $20. Winners will be selected Thursday morning and will be notified via email. Click here to purchase raffle tickets. PTO Meeting: You are invited to attend the November PTO Meeting this Thursday, 11/14, from 6:30-7:30 PM in the STEM Room. We will discuss our playground and fundraising plans, plus more Hough happenings. Babysitting is available in the gym.

Hough Street School Book Drive: Are your shelves feeling a bit crowded after the book fair? Bring lightly, loved books to school 11/11 - 11/21 and drop them in our collection bin for Bernie’s Book Bank! These books will be distributed to households in need throughout the Chicagoland area (even right here in our own community).

Hough Spirit Wear Online Sale: Now Open: Get your Hough Hawks/Barrington gear, including shirts, shorts, sweatshirts and zip-ups for the entire family! Hough Spiritwear is available for purchase through 11/17. These make great holiday gifts!

Turkey Bowling Playground Fundraiser at Bowlero: Bring your friends and family to our bowling fundraiser, conveniently scheduled for the Saturday after Thanksgiving, 11/30 , from 12:00-2:00 PM. This event includes two hours of bowling (with shoes), an arcade card, lunch and drinks. Purchase tickets by 11/15 to guarantee your spot. Holiday Market: It’s the most wonderful time of the year and WE NEED YOUR HELP! The Hough Holiday Market is on Tuesday, 12/10 from 5:00 – 7:30 PM and we need parent volunteers to make this event a success! Positions include setting up, taking down, cashiers and shopper leads. New to Hough: The Holiday Market is a great, independent, shopping opportunity right in our own school – think Christkindlmarket exclusively for kids! Younger students will be paired with 5th grade “Helper Elves” who’ll walk side-by-side to help your child(ren) find the perfect gift(s) for each member of the family and ALSO budget their money appropriately.

Hough Holiday Bake Sale: The Hough Bake Sale on 12/10 is in need of your homemade (or store bought) goodies! Please drop off your items, packaged individually-to-sell. You can stop by the Bake Sale in the gym while your child is shopping at the Holiday Market (or scarf down on the walk home...all by yourself). Please remember to bring cash.
