Every year the Merrill Linn Conservancy holds a plain air painting event. Thanks to the efforts of the conservancy and the arts council, Mrs. Gaugler was able to bring some of her students to the event at the Union Count Historical Society's Dale-Engle-Walker property. Students were able to paint outdoors on a beautiful day, while learning about techniques and fundamentals of plain art from a guest artist. Students also learned about the conservancy and the history of the Dale-Engle-Walker property.

Last week was the last meeting of first marking period clubs. Students seemed to genuinely enjoy the activities that teachers had planned. Next week, students will select new clubs for the second marking period.

The next DHEMS Fun Night/Dance is scheduled for Friday, November 10. Fun Night will begin at 7:00 PM and conclude at 9:00 PM. The cost of admission is $3.00. Please remember that all school policies, including dress code and cell phone use are in effect during Fun Night.

Our teachers at DHEMS have been working hard to create experiences in their classes that actively engage students. These experiences help to build excitement toward learning and will stick with students for years to come!

At DHEMS, we recognize the good our students are doing by giving them a Dragon RAP (based on our school expectations of being Respectful, Accountable, Prepared, and Safe). The RAP can be turned into the office for a chance at different incentives. Last week, 60 winners were pulled and invited to the Fall Festival which was organized by the 6th grade team. Students were able to play games, create fall-themed crafts, and have a snack.

If you have not already done so, please provide the school nurse with health documentation required at your child's grade level. 6th grade students are required to have a physical examination completed, and 7th grade students are required to have a dental exam. Exams from 08/22/2022 to present can be accepted. Records can be brought into the middle school office, faxed to 570-522-3331, or emailed to Mrs. Smouse at smouse_h@dragon.k12.pa.us

There have been many items, especially coats and water bottles, placed in the lost and found area at DHEMS. Please encourage your child to take a look before or after school if they have misplaced any items this school year.

Students participating in orchestra recently performed at the high school for the Spooktacular. The event featured excellent performances from our musicians and a costume contest.

Thank you to PSA volunteers for generously planning a teacher/staff appreciation lunch! We are grateful for the donation of food and drinks, and the time volunteers spent setting up to make this happen.

As part of our advisory program, students recently completed cards that will be given to veterans. The cards are part of an annual project by Geisinger that allows students to thank service members with hand-written notes and cards.

Congratulations to our September and October students of the month! These students were selected by the 6th, 7th, 8th, and Related Arts teams for consistently following school expectations of being Respectful, Accountable, Prepared, and Safe.

Our 6th grade team enjoyed coordinating their costumes for Halloween. Harry Potter fans will enjoy this theme!

DHEMS is participating in the Weis4School program, where you can earn money for DHEMS simply by linking your club card to the middle school. Please visit www.weis4school.com and follow the steps to link your club card to DHEMS. Please note: we are listed as D H Eichhorn Middle School (it can be hard to find on the list - look for the first school with the letter 'D'). You can also search by zip code and the middle school will show up. Thank you for your support!

Please remember to email msattendance@dragon.k12.pa.us or call the attendance line at (570) 522-3336 if your child was absent or will be absent from school. Please leave your name, your child's name and grade, and the reason for the absence. Any absences without an excuse will become illegal absences, so it is important to return calls, emails, or letters regarding student absences so that they can be excused! Please refer to the DHEMS student handbook for more information on attendance procedures.
