The Buzz in the Hive
February 2024
A Message from Principal Gethers
Dear Hunley Park Families,
February is known as the month of love and kindness, and at the House of Amistad, we are excited to spread kindness like confetti! To promote acts of kindness and bring a smile to everyone's face, we will be selling Candy Grams for just $1.00 each. Your child will have the opportunity to send a Candy Gram to someone special. It could be a friend, a teacher, or anyone they appreciate and want to surprise with a sweet treat. Please encourage your child to participate and spread the joy of kindness.
In other news, last month, your child completed their diagnostic assessment on iReady. We are thrilled to share that there has been significant growth and progress among our students. Many of them have successfully met their growth goals, and we could not be prouder of their achievements. We believe in celebrating their hard work and dedication, and we can't wait to acknowledge their growth during an upcoming celebration.
As always, we appreciate your continued support and involvement in your child's education. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Together, let's make February a month filled with kindness and celebration!
Warm regards,
Dr. Gethers

Fetter Health Care
Fetter Health Care is available to our students and families. The mobile unit visits our campus twice a month on Fridays. They can take care of medical appointments as well as immunizations. The next visit to our campus will be January 12th. You can click the links below to register with Fetter Health Care (Spanish version will change to Spanish after you enter name and email) and set your appointments so your child can be seen here and not miss any school days.
Announcements
* Parents please be mindful of your speed as your drive on campus in the mornings as well as the afternoons. Safety for everyone is our number one priority.
* Please be reminded that it is CCSD policy that you must have ID to pick up students from the front office.
* If your child is absent, it is imperative that you send a note for the absence. Handwritten or medical notes will cover the absence depending on the reason or number of absences.
* Please be aware that the cut-off time to drop students off in the car rider line in the morning is 7:25 am. Any time after that, the student will be tardy and need to be signed in at the front office.
Parent Advocate Corner
As the Parent Advocate here at Hunley Park Elementary, a part of my role is to help families with challenges that may interrupt our young scholars' educational process. If things aren't well at home, it can affect students when they are at school. We can assist with resources that may be needed to meet those challenges. We currently have vouchers for the N Charleston Community Resource Center that allows families to get necessities including, but not limited to food, clothing, and hygiene items. Please contact me for vouchers by phone 843-767-5914 or email John_Frasier@Charleston.K12.SC.US
Free Haircuts at The Hive
Parents, we have been given the opportunity to receive free haircuts periodically throughout the school year from Barber's Inc Barbershop. The first opportunity will be this Monday February 5, 2024. Barber's Inc. will be on campus from 10am until 1pm to give haircuts. To be as efficient as possible and to allow for maximum number of haircuts on this day, haircuts will be simple and will require a signed consent form from a parent or guardian. Students will be scheduled for haircuts during their recess time to avoid interruption to instructional time. For this first session we will have 15 spots available and will adjust as needed. Please see the link to sign the consent form and be scheduled https://forms.gle/SBezkrnK22cqyuJ38 For questions, please call Mr. Frasier 843-767-5914 or email at John_Frasier@Charleston.K12.SC.US
