Daily Attendance Update with October Data
Showing up to school everyday is critical for all students' well being, engagement and learning. We want to ensure that as many of our students as possible are attending school everyday.
Last year, 69% of Parkside students attended school for 90% of all school days (less than 18 absences). This year our goal is for 71.3% of students to attend school 90% or more of all school days. This goal is important because reducing the number of students who are chronically absent will help improve outcomes and lead to more academic success for these students. This year, 227 of our students have perfect attendance and another 339 students missed three days or less. This means that 73.13% of students attended 90% or more which puts us on track to meet our goal.
If your child has missed four or more days during this year, for any reason, they are on track to be chronically absent. Any student attending less than 90% of all school days is considered chronically absent. Chronic absenteeism is missing so much school for any reason that a student is academically at risk. Missing school and class time is detrimental to a student's own learning and can often be a distraction from the learning of others. If you are worried about your child's school attendance please talk with one of your child's teachers, their school counselor, our social worker or an administrator.
First Quarter Tardy Data
The first quarter of school ended on November 7. Over the first 45 days of school our students were tardy (unexcused) 3,680 times. Thank you to the 252 students who were on time everyday and to the 225 students who were tardy only once or twice.
Your student’s first class starts promptly at 7:25AM and our doors open at 7:20AM. Students MUST arrive by 7:20 to ensure they get to their first class on time. Students arriving after 7:25 are tardy and must check in at the main office. As a school, we have been attempting to address students and families who are habitually tardy through our code of conduct to improve our numbers for second quarter. We will continue cntacting those families directly each week.
Basketball Tryouts
Tryouts for boys and girls basketball begin Tuesday November 12. Tryouts will be held the 12th to the 14th. Boys will tryout each day from 2:30 to 4:30 (boys will go directly to the Gym at dismissal). Girls tryouts will be from 5:00 to 7:00. All practices will be located in the Parkside Gymnasium.
All 5th graders are eligible to tryout for our Parkside teams. If 5th grade students are not selected, they have the option for trying out for their elementary school's team beginning the week of 11/18. All families need to register their students on FamilyID before tryouts begin. https://hello.familyid.com/
