April is School Library Month!
April is School Library Month! The American Association of School Librarians celebrates school libraries every April! CHPS is grateful for our five amazing media clerks who run our school libraries! April 6th-12th is also National School Library Week!
Thank you to Aaron Fryman at Highland Elementary, Angie Fanning at North Park School for Innovation, Shari Alexon at Valley View Elementary, Joan Szurek at Columbia Academy and Tanya Moore at Columbia Heights High School for everything you do for our Hylanders!

Hylander Boys Volleyball Inaugural Season Celebration
CHPS is excited to celebrate the inaugural season of Hylander Boys Volleyball! Come join us on Wednesday, April 16th at 6:00 p.m. between the JV and Varsity games vs. Robbinsdale Cooper in the CHHS Main Gym to celebrate!
This game is FREE to enter for everyone! We hope to see a great turnout to celebrate with our athletes as they take on Robbinsdale Cooper!
Elementary Track & Field Day Shirts and Water Bottles
All three CHPS elementary schools are looking forward to having Track & Field Day in May. Each school is selling t-shirts and water bottles online. Shirts and water bottles will be delivered to your child's school!
Shirts are $9 and water bottles are $2!

GRATIS - Clases Para Padres
Leueen y Orlando enseñarán sobre como aprender juntos a educar a nuestros hijos. Aprenderemos nuevas herramientas para que nuestros hijos puedan triunfar en sus estudios y en su vida personal. Aprenderán técnicas para administrar su tiempo y sus finanzas. Aprenderán a identificar y comprender la importancia de las reglas, las obligaciones, los privilegios y cómo mantenerse activos. Aprenderán a leer las etiquetas de los productos de comida para tomar mejores decisiones y tener un estilo de vida saludable. En estas seis sesiones hablaremos sobre la vida en el hogar, la escuela y como navegar en la comunidad. Incluiremos en estas clases, la seguridad en la comunidad, como obtener las becas para ir a la universidad y la vida cotidiana. Son seis clases y una graduación.
Las clases son GRATIS e incluyen el material de los temas que hablaremos. También tendremos cuidado de niños y las clases serán en español.
Las clases serán los días lunes. Y la graduación será un día miércoles, deben asistir a 5 clases para obtener el Certificado de Graduación, caso contrario se les dará el Certificado de Participación.
Tendremos seis clases los lunes en abril y mayo (14, 21 y 28 de abril y 5, 12 y 19 de mayo), y luego una celebración de graduación, el día miércoles 21 de mayo.
Current Openings in Mini Adventures!
Mini Adventures is a four-star Parent Aware child care program for children ages 36 months to 5 years old. In Mini Adventures, your child will participate in a variety of activities, including mathematics, guided group time, literacy, dramatic play, music, games, outdoor play, arts & crafts, movement and more! Early Childhood Screening is required for all participants. Independent toileting is required for children before participating.
Hours, Dates, Locations & Fees:
- 6:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m. weekdays, year-round at the CHPS Family Center (closed June 19 and June 30-July 4)
- Weekly program fee for 5 days a week = $323
- Weekly program fee for 4 days a week = $273
- Weekly program fee for 3 days a week = $215
- Weekly program fee for 2 days a week = $152
- Weekly program fee for 1 day a week = $77
- `Plus a $25 registration fee for new registrations only
- This fee includes breakfast, lunch and a snack. We accept County Child Care Assistance and Pathways I scholarships. Pathways II scholarships may be available for those who qualify.

CHPS Well Child Immunization Clinic - May 8th
CHPS is hosting a Well Child Immunization Clinic on May 8th from 2:30-6:30 p.m. in the Family Center (1440 49th Ave. NE, Columbia Heights, MN 55421). Enter Door #2.
Well-child visits and immunizations will be offered at this clinic by appointment only. You will receive a phone call the week of the clinic to notify you of your appointment time. These visits will be free of charge for our families.
Immunizations offered at this clinic:
- All Well Child Vaccinations
- Influenza (flu)
- COVID-19

Sports Physical for all Athletics
Every athlete participating in school-year sports must have a physical on file with the Activities Office. Student Athletes cannot register for the upcoming season without a sports physical on file. Sports physicals are valid for three years. 24-25 Sports Physical Form

Youth Basketball
Register Now for our Youth Basketball Program for students in grades K-5. This program will be run by our High School Boys Basketball Team. No cost to participate, starts April 14.
Coming Soon:
- CHHS Spring Play presents “The Champ”, a comedy about a donut eating competition.
- Performances will be May 2 at 7:00 p.m., and May 3 and 4 at 2:00 p.m.
- Summer Youth Camp registration! We plan to have sports, strength training and theater opportunities for students in grades 6-12

Mini Tumblers and Mighty Tumblers (must complete mini tumblers)
- Tumblers will work to develop motor coordination, spatial awareness, flexibility, and self-confidence through elements of gymnastics and dance movements. Each week, instructors lead movement and creative games, across the floor exercises, tumbling, balance beam work, and more to practice and learn skills.
- Mini Tumblers Ages 3-5 (Beginners): Wednesdays, Mar 12-Apr 23 (No Apr 2) from 4:45-5:30pm. $36. Register here.
- Mighty Tumblers Ages 3-5 (Completed mini tumblers): Wednesdays, Mar 12-Apr 23 (No Apr 2) from 3:30-4:15pm. $36. Register here.
Poster Workshop for Teens
- Saturday, April 12, 2:00-4:00 p.m.
- Do you have a favorite quote or an idea you want to share through poster design? Join us at the library for a fun, hands-on workshop where you’ll learn how to use slogans, symbols, and simple printmaking techniques to create a killer poster design. You’ll walk away with a finished piece and some copies of your design to share with the world. This is your chance to make your voice heard and explore how posters can make a big impact in public spaces. Ages 12+.
