SACS DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS 8-30-2023

NEWS, EVENTS, ATHLETICS, MEALS INFORMATION LOWER DOWN
BUS TIMES
Please take a moment to look over the bus routes. Buses leave school at 7:00am and return to school at 7:30am. With that being said, there are only approximate times. We must take into consideration traffic, number of students that get on, on any certain day, construction, weather, train, etc. As the weeks progress you will be able to get a roundabout time that your bus will be at your stop.
Reminder: the buses depart school at 2:35pm and typically are done their routes by 3:00pm. (Wednesdays they depart at 1:35pm)
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE PROCEDURES
There will be some changes to arrival and dismissal procedures for this school year. Students that are being dropped off will need to do so in the front of the building. There will be signs and staff to help direct students. Staff will be present to direct traffic and students to the appropriate place to arrive in their classrooms. All bus riders will arrive and depart from the rear of the building. We ask, for safety, that families respect the staff directing traffic and adhere to these measures. The attached maps should be helpful with the new drop off and pick up procedures.
Learning community staff will gather their students at 7:30 at the designated areas shown on the map. At 7:35 the learning community groups will enter the building. Families, please have your students dressed to be outside during the brief gathering process.

NEWS AND PICTURES
STUDENT PERFORMANCE AT CONVOCATION
Students provided the Maple Run Unified School District convocation attendees with an inspiring original drama performance. Their work addressed the question: How can we, as a school community, ensure that students' perspectives are valued, supported and heard without bias when we work together to prompt change. Impressive student performances, like this one, have been a tradition at MRUSD's convocation for six years now. A number of the performers pictured in the linked photo albums have been involved in every show.
Check out the 86 pictures of the performance by clicking on the photo to the right.

HEIGHT BOARD
We are beginning a new tradition. Children can stand next to the height board for cell phone photos over the first few days of school or when we have Open House. With this height board, families can chart years and growth of their students. The board will be at the entrance of school on Wednesday and Thursday this week. In addition, look for the board at Open House on Thursday, the 21st of September.
INCLUSIVE WHIRL (MERRY-GO-ROUND)
You will notice that the playground has a new kind of merry-go-round. It was designed for students in wheelchairs to roll onto the equipment and join in the experience of twirling around. We are worried that the inclusive whirl will be overloaded at recess times. To prevent damage, we ask that a maximum of five people ride the inclusive whirl at a time. Thank you.
PARENT WALKING WEDNESDAY LEADERS WANTED
We are gearing up for another year of walk- and bike-to-school promotion. With that in mind, we hope that adult family members will join our staff walking school bus leaders throughout the school year. The more adults we have have on each of the walks, the more fun students have along our six routes and the safer each Walking Wednesday event will be. If you think you might be interested in participating regularly and shepherding students to school, then please let Mr. Craib know at mcraib@maplerun.org.

Breakfast
Lunch
ALL FAMILIES ARE ASKED TO FILL IN MEALS FORM
Under Vermont’s universal school meals law, all public school students can eat breakfast and lunch for free at school. Families are no longer required to complete any paperwork for their students to receive free meals at school. But we still need your help: please Fill the Form to help our schools continue providing these free meals.
Even if you didn’t fill out forms for free meals in the past, doing so now will help us continue the Universal Meals program. By filling out the form you:
Support your school to access its fair share of millions in federal dollars for educational programs
Provide students in our district and across Vermont with healthy, nutritious food.
Reduce the cost of universal school meals for Vermont taxpayers.
Filling the form also helps your community and our state.
The information helps the State access federal money for universal meals, so taxpayer contributions from Vermonters are lower.
The State receives more federal dollars for education and has the information necessary to divide the money equitably among Vermont schools.
Filling the form only takes a few minutes and it’s the right thing to do.
Thank you for helping the students of Vermont and your community.
