Mr. Mauck's Musings
Happy Friday the 13th. What a great week to be a Wildcat. Congratulations to Amyelina Ravenstein and Mrs. Lisa Jennings on their selection as JHS's Student and Staff of the Week. Next week is Homecoming Week and our student council has a good week planned. We will be decorating the hallways with the class theme, having dress up days, and participating in class competitions during homeroom. Elections for king and queen will be on line so get your vote in early. The best band in the land, the Marching Wildcats, open their performance season Saturday at 8:40 pm at Paoli. They have been working very hard and have a nice show put together. School picture proofs were sent out online and home with the students. Picture retakes have been scheduled for October 8th from 8-1:20. Picture proofs are due October 6th. Check out the link to our first live edition of Wildcat Weekly, the student produced "news" and event program. The students are doing a really good job with their production. We are excited to share our first set of FFA results with you! The team consisting of Emma Popp, Grace Kluemper, Claire Linette, and Mackenzie Lichlyter placed first and the team of Kenadie Ambrose, Brooklyn Rasche, Avery Seng, and Ella Schue placed eleventh. Additionally, there were three Jasper FFA members that placed in the top ten, individually. Grace Klumper placed first, Emma Popp placed fifth, and Claire Linette placed 7th! Nice job by our future farmers in their first competition.
On the athletic front, football is traveling to Evansville Bosse tonight. Next week the girl's golf team has a warm-up match on Monday before shooting for a sectional title on Saturday at Buffalo Trace course. Good luck girls. Unified football travels to Bedford North Lawrence twice. Boys tennis will be at home on Monday and Thursday. The boys soccer team takes the pitch on Monday and the girls will play on Thursday. Volleyball is home Thursday against county rival NE Dubois. Homecoming will be Friday as the cats tangle with Mater Dei. Good luck to all of our teams as we compete for our school and community.
SWICACC has provided us with some information about some dangerous social media/gaming sites. I have included their fliers and information below. The Dubois County Health Department is offering flu shots to all students and staff at JHS on October 8th. Please fill out the online application included here: English: https://form.jotform.com/241914619080153 Spanish:https://form.jotform.com/241914779066164

SWICACC Safety Alert
Southwestern Indiana Child Advocacy Center Coalition have been made aware of an app that is becoming increasingly popular with kids and teens called Avakin Life. It is a life simulation game similar to Sims, but allows for more private interaction between characters. It is being used by predators to lure kids into being in online “relationships”. Once a connection has been established, the adult will then encourage the child to use another app, such as discord, to share nude pictures and more personal information. While both of these apps have been around for awhile, their usage is growing among kids.
School Picture Information
A message from Mr. Elrod,
Seniors - When do we turn in our senior portraits? Due date for those is usually Valentine's Day.
Seniors - Why do I need a school portraits? Because we use that photo for transcript.
Underclassmen - My picture is bad, can I do retakes? Yes, for $5 you can have another shot at it.
If I don't buy, do I have to turn this paper back in? It depends on if you're ok with the second image being used for yearbook. (I think it's the 2nd?) Orders can also be done online... In fact, encourage that so we don't have to handle as much! But, I know people still enjoy the paper world, so starting tomorrow I'll have a couple of boxes outside my room (306) for people to turn in orders or yearbook selections. If there are name/photo issues with any students, please let me know! Otherwise, it will be wrong in the book and in PowerSchool.
