Columbus City Schools is offering our Pre-K program tuition-waived for the 2025-2026 school year. The Online Registration will open April 1, 2025. Enrollment appointments are no longer required. An income verification document and the Eligibility Screening Tool must be uploaded to the OLR application for all Pre-K students. Please view the enrollment page for other documents needed to enroll. School selections will also begin April 1, 2025 via the Parent Portal after the online registration has been processed. If you need help entering the lottery after enrolling please email me and I can help you. Reminder that you cannot enter the lottery until your enrollment has been fully processed and have either received an Activation Key for Parent Portal or if you already have one, that your student shows up in the list of students in your homepage.

High school artists who reside in Ohio’s 15th Congressional District can participate in the 2025 Congressional Art Competition! This annual nationwide contest showcases the creativity of young artists, and the winning artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for an entire year, plus they will also receive a trip to Washington, D.C. for the national celebration. Important: Students must reside in OH-15 to be eligible and a completed art release form must be included with each submission.

Testing Dates:

• Testing for CSIA's 5th grade students will take place during the week of May 19-23, 2025.

The STAMP 4SE Test:

• This series of assessments are specifically designed to be developmentally and linguistically appropriate for learners in world language, dual language immersion programs, or other school environments with learners aged 12 and younger.

What skills are tested?:

• The Avant STAMP 4Se will assess a student's receptive and productive skills. Students will complete tasks to assess skills in: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.

Aligned to proficiency standards:

• Avant's assessments utilize authentic texts and audio you would encounter in the real world such as signs, animals, and the weather. Avant proficiency tests are aligned to US proficiency standards.

Computer Adaptive Tests:

• Adaptive tests eliminate questions that are too easy or too difficult for each test taker allowing them to reach their highest level of proficiency. All Avant assessments are developed by professional target language and assessment experts.

Recently the students were divided into 15 different Animal Houses. We've also implemented monthly House Meetings in order to build a sense of belonging and ownership. PTO is holding a competition for the different Houses. Where each house will receive a gallon sized jug and the objective is to be the first House to fill their jug all the way up. The first House to fill their jug will win a pizza party!

Please join us for this year's combined Art Show and Family Appreciation Night! The Art Show will feature artwork by students in grades K-5. There will be a scavenger hunt, an interactive art making table, games and food for families.

We've separated the students into 15 different Houses in an effort to build our students and staff sense of belonging and ownership in our school. Every student and staff (minus a few staff to be available if needed) will participate in a 30 minute house meeting. During this meeting, all will work to get to know each other and have fun! This past week student's picked their houses (all houses are named using Spanish words for animals) and received a bracelet they will be able to take home at the end of the year. We will meet once a month.

If your student brings in $1 on April 17th, they will get to Duct Tape a teacher to the wall during the school day as a part of a PTO Fundraiser. Students will get 1 piece of duct tape for every $1 they bring in. PTO funds pay for school events, class activities, teacher appreciation week, etc.

In partnership with the Grange Insurance Audubon Center, Seeds of Caring is hosting an Earth Day Celebration! CCS students (ages 2-12), along with their caregivers are invited to engage in environmental service projects and activities that include: a book swap (families are encouraged to bring up to 3 gently used books per child to swap for different books), composting and recycling games, upcycled art, wildlife encounters, tree planting (over 300 trees will be available to plant), and so much more. Together, we will assemble period product bags for girls in Columbus, Cincinnati, and Toledo schools, helping to combat period poverty and break the stigma surrounding menstruation. Menstrual products are a necessity, not a luxury. Many young girls face challenges accessing these essential items, affecting their confidence, education, and overall well-being. Proyecto Mariposas is working to close this gap by providing period product bags to students in need. If you'd like to donate products they will be collecting pads (Size 1 & 2, preferably Always Ultra-Thin) and individually packed wipes. If you prefer to help financially you can donate Here. Let’s work together to ensure that no girl has to miss out on life due to lack of period supplies.

The Ohio State University’s College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) will host the third annual “We Grow Scientists” at Waterman Agricultural and Natural Resources Laboratory. This afternoon of hands-on learning and activities will showcase the many STEAM fields CFAES has to offer and will include a look at the Waterman facilities such as the Controlled Environment Agriculture Research Complex. “We Grow Scientists” is a free event open to learners of all ages looking to learn more about STEAM in their community as part of the COSI Science Festival (April 30 - May 3, 2025).

ARISE (ARTs through Intergenerational Social Engagement) is a five-week intergenerational program focused on storytelling through the fine arts. The ARISE Scholars Program will provide teens who are currently in grades 9-12 with the opportunity to earn service hours, to volunteer in the community, and to experience how the fine arts can be used as a tool for wellness. The central theme of ARISE is storytelling. Throughout the program, they will explore how theatre, music, dance, and the visual arts can help us share our stories with others. There is no cost to participate, although scholars will be responsible for their own transportation. Each student who completes the program will earn a $100 travel stipend. Questions? The PTO sponsors School Events, Class Activities, Teacher Appreciation Week, provides food for Parent Teacher Conferences and so much more. They have fundraisers throughout the year in order to pay for these events but are always accepting donations.

2. Recess Duty would mean reminding students to follow the rules, playing with students and ensuring all students are being safe while at recess.
