Dear Preschool Families,

We look forward to celebrating St. Patrick's Day with your children this month. Our St. Patrick's Day celebration will be next week on Thursday, March 13. Because we have such a long time until Spring Break, we have some important community helpers who will be visiting Unity Preschool in the coming weeks: the Fort Mill Fire Department, a police officer with the Charlotte Mecklenberg police department, and a dental hygenist. We are also trying something new this year. We have a week dedicated to art in April and each classroom will be studying and learning about a different artist. We are looking forward to sharing our student's masterpieces with you at our family picnics in early May.

On a personal note, I will be out of the office next week traveling with my husband and daughter who is on her college Spring Break. Ms. Danielle will be in the Preschool Office on Monday and Ms. Carolyn will be in the Preschool Office Tuesday - Thursday. P.S. Remember to SPRING FORWARD this weekend. Daylight Savings Time begins at 2:00 am

on Sunday, March 9. There is no school on Monday, March 17 because the FMSD has a Teacher Work Day scheduled.

Our next Color Day and Spirit Day is Thursday, March 13 and it will be GREEN DAY along with our St. Patrick's Day celebration! For many years, a leprechaun has visited Unity Preschool causing mischief in our classrooms, but also leaving some treats. We look forward to following clues to see if we can catch him this year.

Our Next Spirit Day is April 17. We will celebrate Easter in our classrooms before our late Spring Break. Your teachers will send party requests in April.

*Spring Pictures

Katy Rue of Katy Rue Photography will be doing our pictures on Tuesday, April 1. We plan to do all classes on Tuesday with a weather back-up day on Thursday, April 3. We will take individual pictures, sibling pictures (Unity students), and class pictures. The pictures are taken outside in our beautiful courtyard.

We will enjoy a picnic in the park with families at 11:15. If it is a rainy day we will have the picnics in the Fellowship Hall. Plan to bring a blanket and lunch and enjoy a picnic with your child and classmates.

We are so blessed to have Ms. Carolyn at Unity Preschool. Ms. Carolyn has been helping Unity Preschool for the past 14 years! She is our Tuesday/Thursday helper, Librarian, first call sub, and an extra pair of hands whenever we need them. Ms. Carolyn is a Fort Mill native and an avid Clemson fan. She also works in the FLYERS after-school program at Riverview Elementary and as our Nursery Caregiver at Unity.

Favorite Foods: Ms. Carolyn enjoys ice cream (especially butter pecan at Baskin Robbins) and hamburgers.

Favorite Music: Ms. Carolyn loves "oldies" music from the 60s, 70s and 80s

Favorite Book: David Copperfield by Charles Dickens

Favorite Activities: Ms. Carolyn loves the mountains, cruising, and gardening

Coach Shannon Myatt has been Unity's Playball coach for the past four years. Playball is a sport and movement program for children of all athletic abilities. It provides a broad introduction to physical activity as well as developing and refining skills used in a variety of sports. Coach Shannon brings new and exciting lesson plans to our children each week on Wednesday. She and her husband, Chris, have three busy boys in middle and high school. Coach Shannon is originally from Chicago and her family moved to Fort Mill 5.5 years ago.

Favorite Movie: Goodfellas

Favorite Activities: Running, hiking, working out, and spending time with her busy family.

We are looking for gently used Little Tikes vehicles for our "parking lot." The children have so much fun with these cars and some of ours are showing some wear. If you have outgrown yours or see them for sale on neighborhood postings, please let Ms. Linda know.

Did you know that research indicates that children need both guided instruction and playful exploration to learn? When we combine intentional teaching with meaningful play, we create opportunities for children to develop critical skills while staying engaged and joyful. Unity Preschool Staff is excited to spend tomorrow morning with Melissa McColl of Moving Little Minds based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Melissa will be giving us additional background knowledge, fresh ideas, and new tools to merge our instruction with PLAY!

*Tuition Withdrawal: Our next tuition withdrawal date will be Wednesday, April 2. This will be the last tuition withdrawal for those of you who made an August payment. I will send you an e-mail in April if you are on our shortlist of families who can expect a May tuition withdrawal.

*Names on Clothes: Please include the name of your child on jackets. It helps our subs because they do not know everyone.

*Bug Spray/Sunscreen: As it warms up, please apply sunscreen and/or bug spray in the morning before you drop off your child.

*Folder Reminder: Please remember to empty your child's folder at least every week!

Unity Presbyterian Church is thrilled to host Vacation Bible School this summer. VBS will be held Monday, June 9 - Thursday, June 12 from 9 am - 12 pm. This year’s theme is Road Trip: On the Go With God. Based on Joshua 1:9, “The Lord your God is with you wherever you go,” we will discover that God’s presence is always near, no matter where the journey of life takes us. All children who will be 4 by August 31st, 2025 through Rising 4th grade are invited to join us on this exciting journey as we discover new places, new friends, and ways that we can discover God’s goodness and presence everywhere. Rising 5th and 6th grades are invited to Mission Camp at VBS, a fun-filled week of exploring the VBS Bible stories and seeing how those stories send us out to serve each day in our Fort Mill Community.

Registration will open on March 10 for Unity families, grandchildren of Unity members, and Unity Preschool families. Registration opens to the public on March 24th and will close on April 3rd or when filled, if before then. Our PreK spaces fill quickly so you are encouraged to register before it opens to the public or you will likely end up on a waitlist.
