Strings Recruitment Letter for Grade 2 Families
Dear Parent/Guardians of Students currently in Grade 2, moving to Grade 3 September 2025,
As we look forward to the fall, our music department needs to plan ahead for instrumental instruction for your student. We are glad to offer instrumental music lessons to all Cranford Public School students and the valuable educational experience that music-making provides. Research shows that students who play an instrument are more academically successful and playing in an ensemble promotes a variety of skills including collaboration, empathy, and creativity. We ask that if your child has any interest in playing an instrument, that you sign up by the deadline below as it will allow us to ensure that we have the appropriate resources in September.
In Grade 3, students may begin playing a string instrument: the violin, viola, or cello. The half-hour lessons on these string instruments are free to all interested students and are held on a weekly basis as a pull-out from the classroom, during the school day.
When you decide to participate in our instrumental program, you will be responsible for providing your child with an instrument and necessary accessories. We highly recommend renting an instrument from one of our recommended vendors instead of purchasing one for your child. This will ensure that your child has a reputable instrument to play, maintenance and repair services, a complimentary method book, reasonably priced rental packages, and associated instrument accessories. Please note that Violins, Violas, and Cellos change sizes as your child grows. In order to ensure your child will consistently have the accurate size needed, we strongly encourage renting their instrument. Rental companies will exchange for larger sizes whenever needed, free of charge. Our recommended vendors and their contact information is listed below. (see attachments)
After completing the digital registration form, your child’s Orchestra director will contact you with your child’s instrument assignment and additional rental information and procedures. Please note that all instruments will be delivered to your child’s school in the fall. Please fill out this Google Form to let us know if your child intends on participating in our string program next year. You must complete the registration by June 19, 2025. Current Walnut Avenue School students If you are in need of financial assistance for the rental of your child’s instrument please email me at kostovski@cranfordschools.org.

Please feel free to contact me or your child’s music teacher with any additional questions. We look forward to fostering your child’s music literacy.
