FVE NEWS
MARCH 2025
DEAR FRONTIER VALLEY FAMILIES,
As we move into the spring, I want to share how proud we are of our FVE buffaloes. Our dedicated staff works hard each day to create a successful environment for all students in our school. We are looking forward to sharing all of the growth that your child has made so far this year during conferences the week of March 10th. Along with finishing out the second half of the year strong, we are also involved in planning for the 2025-2026 school year. In the coming months, our staff will begin the process of creating dynamic class placements for our students. We value the voice of our parents in this process. As an option, you may share with us some information that will be a piece of the conversation for class placement on this form. Please keep in mind that we value all of our staff members at Frontier Valley, and that this is not a teacher selection process. If you would like to give input on the learning environment that best suits your child, please send us your input on the form above by April 15th. We are looking forward to seeing all of you soon during parent teacher conference week. As always, we appreciate the continued support of our wonderful school. Wishing you all a wonderful spring break this month!
Cheerfully,
Kiersten
SPRING BOOK FAIR
The spring book fair is NEXT WEEK! It will run Tuesday, March 4, through Friday, March 7, in the school library.
We need volunteers to help set up, be a cashier (it's easy, we promise!) and tear down. Choose a time here to pitch in on bringing the book magic:

Set up an eWallet (it's basically a gift card parents can put money on ... no need to print anything out -- we can search by each child's name on the cash register to check balances and complete sales!) here:
Questions? Email Leah Woodbury at leahwoodbury@gmail.com. Thanks as always for your support!
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES

During the annual testing window of April 7-April 25, 2025, the Douglas County School District will be required to administer the following state-mandated assessments.
You can view the FVE testing schedule HERE (subject to changes). If you have specific questions about testing schedules or procedures, please contact your school assessment coordinator, Christin Pursley at cfpursley@dcsdk12.org.
Parents/guardians may excuse their students from testing if they wish to do so by following this process.
FVE ATTENDANCE DATA
Our goal for 2025 will be to decrease our Chronically Absent Rate to 10% by the end of the year! We are currently at 14% as of February, 2025.
STUDENT ATTENDANCE - DID YOU KNOW?
Attendance matters! Daily attendance and engagement in learning are essential to student success at all grade levels. Colorado law directly connects to attendance through compulsory school attendance, truancy, and school finance. Important student attendance definitions include:
Truancy: An unexcused absence. The truancy rate is calculated by dividing the total number of unexcused student absence days by the total possible student attendance days.
Habitually Truant: A student is considered habitually truant if they have four unexcused absences in one month or ten unexcused absences in one school year.
Chronically Absent: A student who is absent 10% or more of the days they are enrolled during the school year is considered chronically absent. This includes all types of absences—unexcused, excused, and suspensions. The chronic absenteeism rate is the percentage of students enrolled who are chronically absent.
MARCH 17TH-21ST
CANTERBERRY TRAIL SCHOOL ZONE
The parking areas alongside Canterberry Trail offer an alternative location for drop off and pick up of FVE students. This section of roadway adjacent to the school property is identified as a School Zone and the speed limit is reduced to 20 MPH in the morning from approximately 8:15 to 8:40 and in the afternoon from 3:15 to 3:40. This area can become very congested with not only vehicles but also students that are walking/riding bikes to and from Frontier Valley and Cimarron Middle school. Please use appropriate caution in the area by maintaining a safe speed and pedestrian awareness. U-turns in the School Zone can be very dangerous and problematic. Often our partners in the Parker Police Department monitor school zones to help us with safety during heavy traffic times of the day. Thanks for your increased awareness driving near our school, and cooperation in helping to maintain a safe environment for all our students in this busy area.
COUNSELOR'S CORNER
In our counselor lessons, we are learning about how executive function skills help us be successful in school and beyond. These skills play a big role in many areas of life, from following multi-step directions in class to handling emotions and problem-solving with friends. Strong executive function skills help children focus, plan ahead, and adapt to new challenges.
You can support your child’s development by encouraging routines, breaking tasks into smaller steps, and practicing skills like goal-setting and self-control. Simple activities—such as letting your child help plan a family outing, use a checklist for homework, or play memory games—can strengthen these important abilities.
Our 5th graders are learning all about middle school and what to expect. As we talk about middle school, students learn they have similar worries as their peers, which builds a sense of community and belonging. We also learn about all the new opportunities in middle school. I challenge every 5th grader to try out one new sport or activity in middle school so they can learn more about their own strengths and meet new friends.
Career Day Volunteers
Frontier Valley Elementary will be hosting a Career Day on Tuesday, April 29th and we are looking to partner with parents of our students to help inspire and educate our students about a variety of career paths. We are seeking parents who can volunteer two hours of their time to present 2-3 interactive, 30-minute sessions. If you or a colleague are interested in participating, we would love to provide more details and answer any questions you may have. Please fill out this form or email the school counselor.

TALENT SHOW THANK YOUS
Hi FVE Community,
Sometimes life goes by so fast we forget to say thank you. I would like to thank the following individuals for helping make the 2025 Talent Show happen last month.
First, Christin Pursley, helped every bit of the way! From coordinating communication, creating marketing posters, hosting the auditions, and creating the best line-up of acts! Everything came together for the performers because of her and I'm so grateful.
Second, Larry Swain, put himself in the middle of production leading sound/music, microphones, and coordinating each performance on stage. This devoted Dad made Sound and Production look so easy.
Next, Thank you FVEA! They helped to sponsor the concessions and flowers that were sold at the evening show. Having their support makes this event strong.
Many thank yous...
- Our Talent Show was successful because of two behind the scenes moms: Kayla Martinez and Lindsey Floyd were coaches and fabulous backstage leads.
- Thank you to Amber and Steve Warren for donating time and commercial backlighting for the evening show! That extra lighting REALLY makes the show so special and magical.
- Jo Evans helped tremendously with backstage hands and filled-in when we needed extra help.
- A big thanks goes to Nate J. and Cooper M., two outstanding student volunteers from Legend High School, who helped move mats, props, and microphones on stage.
- Thank you, Greta Bryant, for making the flower table a huge success. Her table allowed friends and family to purchase a single gorgeous rose with a note to honor their performing star.
- Thank you, Erica Picard, for putting together a wonderful concession table that provided a quick drink or snack during the intermission. These two volunteering moms made the evening intermission meaningful and enjoyable!
- Thanks to Lacey Meehan, Paulette Salazar, Suzie Miller, and Kristin Jebens who all pitched in at either the concession set-up, supervising the VIPs, or the final clean-up.
- Thank you, Carissa Mazzeo, who sent out many updated newsletters, marketing materials, and email blasts to get the word out. We proudly had over 30 acts, 70+ students, and two performances with over 150 fans in the audience during the evening show.
- Thank you to Kristin Rasbach for taking photos for the Yearbook and preserving memories for years to come.
- There were many others that helped and please know how much you are appreciated. Mr. Maurice for the hanging the curtains!!!
- The performers made this truly THE GREATEST SHOW. And an extra special thanks to our four MCs that hosted, introduced every act, and brought their personality and professionalism to the stage each time: Olivia J., Chandler H., Lucus B., and Aleah S!
What an amazing Talent Show community we are building.
So grateful to serve,
Sheila Swain
Talent Show Lead Volunteer

DID YOU KNOW?
The staff at Frontier Valley participate in weekly Professional Learning Communities! PLCs are driven by data. Teachers in a PLC regularly assess student progress and use this data to inform their instruction. This means that teaching is constantly being adjusted to meet the evolving needs of our students, leading to better outcomes over time.
