The Hawthorn District 73 Board of Education met on November 9th, 2023. Joel Finfer, Michael Engle, Julie Clifford, Karl Borchers, George Fievet, Wes Polen, and Robin Cleek. Also in attendance were Asst. Supt. of Finance & Business Operations Ms. LeeAnn Taylor; Asst. Supt. of Innovative Learning Dr. Karen Maturo; Asst. Supt. for Human Resources Mr. Adam Palmer; and Superintendent Dr. Pete Hannigan.

Recognition
The Hawthorn Board of Education Recognition Committee was thrilled to highlight the remarkable achievements of our Hawthorn Middle North cross country runners who represented HMN at the IESA State meet. The Hawthorn Middle South Boys Soccer Team also received well-deserved recognition from the board for their incredible achievements at the SMSC Conference Tournament. The team secured 1st place with a hard-fought 2-1 victory.

Superintendent's Report
Superintendent Dr. Pete Hannigan unveiled the latest episode of 'Hawthorn's Superpowers,' a series that shines a spotlight on each school building's unique strengths and their dedicated collective efforts. The newest episode featured Aspen Elementary, showcasing their distinctive superpowers
Dr. Hannigan also wished the entire board a happy Board Appreciation Day. He shared a heartwarming video compilation contributed by multiple schools to express their appreciation.

2023 State and District Assessment Update
Superintendent Dr. Pete Hannigan delivered an insightful presentation during the board meeting. He discussed the state of the district, with a particular focus on our performance in relation to the four board of education goals.
School of Dual Language: School Improvement Plan
School of Dual Language Principal Nikki Rodrigo and her team presented the School of Dual Language's improvement plan. They highlighted significant school-wide data trends, focusing on the growth achieved over recent years. Additionally, they outlined the school's goals and action plan for the current academic year. It was noted that they will return in the winter and spring to provide updates on their progress.

Discussion and Public Hearing for Tax Levy
Assistant Superintendent of Finance & Business Operations, Ms. LeeAnn Taylor, conducted a follow-up discussion and held a public hearing regarding the proposed tax levy.
