Week of June 5, 2022
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Greetings,
It always seems like the month of June each year is a whirlwind of great accomplishments. This year is no exception! This past Friday was an amazing Prom for our Junior and Senior classes. Thank you to all who were involved to make this an awesome night for 867 students!
Over the weekend we had some incredible athletic activities, starting with our boys track team winning the Group IV Sectional title for the third time in the last 5 years! We accumulated 125 points to tie for the 3rd most points in South Jersey history! Winslow, in 2003, accumulated 140 points while Rancocas Valley, in 2015, accumulated 136. Oakcrest, in 2015, accumulated 125 and EHT, in 2022, tied Oakcrest! Jumping up two places from their most points 5th place in 2017 at 104. Also, 15 students have advanced to the state championships this weekend. We wish them the best. In Softball news, our Lady Eagles suffered a devastating loss to Watchung Hills in the Group IV finals on Saturday. The game was tie 1-1 in the 6th then went into overtime innings to lose in the bottom of the 9th with a walk off home run making the score 2-1. Great job for them, they are still the South Group IV champs!
Wednesday, I held my last staff meeting of my career. We acknowledged all of our retiring teachers from the High School who have given so much in the course of their career to molding and challenging our students. Those retiree’s are: Ms. Donna Clark (Art), Mr. Michael Novack (Special Education), Ms. Jan Miller (Nurse), Ms. Susan McGowan (Paraprofessional), Mr. Chris Phillips (Social Studies), Ms. Lori Butrus (Special Education) and Ms. Donna Freund (Supervisor of Special Education). We wish them all well in the next chapter of their lives!
Also on Wednesday, Mr. Kristeller, from the Social Studies Department, held a 1980’s character party with his classes. They had props, video projects, food and even a visit from Michael Jackson doing the thriller dance!
Senior Awards were held Wednesday evening with over 100 students being recognized and honored for their academic excellence, furthering their education with earned scholarships and recognition of exceptional service to our high school. The class of 2022 has exceeded over 18 million dollars in scholarships. We are very proud of them.
Friday, June 10, our Physics classes had their annual Physics Boat Races in our High School pool. This is a culmination of their engineering stem project where students have designed and created a scale model cardboard boat. They were tested in class and redesigned, making adjustments where necessary. Once the scale models were to the student's liking they were tasked to build a full scale boat to carry two to three people across the pool. Their only supplies could be duct tape and cardboard! Pictures will follow. What a fun experience for the students!
Don’t forget to vote for this week's EHT Idol! We are getting close to the finish! We are in the semifinals! This week’s semi final performers are Jacklyn Kwarteng and Kimora Stuckley! Make sure you get online to view their performance and vote!
Until next week, have a wonderful weekend! Stay safe, be well, continue to dream of the possibilities ahead of us, be happy and smile at someone!
Ms. Connor

2021 EHTHS Adapted P.E. Bowling Field Trip
We’re on it! On Monday, June 6th, 40 students from Mr. Platt, Mr. Smith, Mr. Belinsky, and Mr. Tridente’s Adapted Physical Education Classes attended a field trip to Field of Dreams. We were so excited to make our inaugural debut at Barry Hackett Field. The field trip featured mini golf, a scavenger hunt, and a t-ball game . The students demonstrated skills learned in Adapted Physical Education class. Tremendous demonstrations of teamwork and sportsmanship were shown throughout the entire day. Big thanks go out to the over 20 paraprofessionals and teachers Mrs. Borman and Mrs. Ormond, who made everything work smoothly. Their tireless efforts, guidance, and support of the students make these special experiences possible. Thank you to Barry Hackett at Field of Dreams, Donna Freund, The Youth Study Team, Karen Semet, Nurses, Eagles Nest School Store, Donna Puggi and the Cafeteria Staff for providing lunches and our administration for supporting this inaugural trip.

Among the highlights of the night were the Seal of Biliteracy and the Principal's Awards. Many members of the community also took part in the event as the presenters of various local scholarships. It was a night of celebration of the outstanding accomplishments of our seniors. Congratulations to the Class of 2022!

COMMUNITY PRIDE
Student Assistance Program and Resources
The High School has adopted a new bullying-prevention program for this school year!
#DAY1--a staff and student-led philosophy that will serve to foster a building-wide atmosphere of kindness and inclusion.
This program was started a few years ago in Bergen County by the Tyler Clementi Foundation and has gained momentum throughout the state and country for use in schools, community groups, workplaces, and sports teams. We even have 3 of our own students who were selected by the foundation as leaders for this initiative!
The premise is simple: the adults in the building make a “declaration statement” about behavior that is expected, as well as behavior that is unacceptable, and we all pledge to conduct ourselves accordingly. This includes seeking help when we witness unacceptable behavior occurring.
This notion is called being an #Upstander.
Has your student taken their #Upstander Pledge yet?!?
Have them sign into their school account and click here! 😊
