4-H Enrollment Now OPEN
Enrollment is open for the 2022-2023 Gage County 4-H year. The enrollment website is v2.4honline.com. All 4-H youth (ages 8-18), Clover Kids (ages 5-7), and leaders/volunteers are required to enroll online every year. Enrollment deadline is June 15. We encourage all members to enroll using a computer and not your mobile device. Call or email Jacie or Rachel at 402-223-1384 with any enrollment questions.
Please make sure to include or update your child's t-shirt size! This is the sizing guide we use to order the Exmark t-shirts for county fair! It is not a required field so can often be missed.
Updated help guides can be found on our website.
Enrollment fee is $12 for each 4-H youth to be paid online or in the office. There is no fee for Clover Kids or adults. We will not be accepting enrollments until we have received payment.

If so check out the recertification information below.
Recycle Christmas Trees
It’s hard to believe that Christmas is already over, again. Christmas trees are such a big part of the holiday, but it seems that they are gone quickly at the end of the season. There are ways to enjoy your tree longer or to recycle it so wildlife or our gardens can enjoy it rather than just tossing it into a landfill with your garbage. Continue Reading.
Poinsettias
A common holiday gift is the Poinsettia. If you receive one for Christmas this year, do you know how to care for it? Poinsettias are a staple for the Christmas season, but they don’t have to be a short-lived gift that is thrown away at the beginning of the year. Continue Reading.
Basic Cation Saturation Ratio Concept, Part 1: Development
If you remember, I did a 10-part “micronutrients in soybean” column series in the Fall of 2020 that you can still read online at croptechcafe.org/soybeans. I decided to address another soil fertility topic series. This series is on the basic cation saturation ratio (BCSR) concept. It will be a 5-part series including the development, field research after development, expanded details on field research in Nebraska, the most recent scientific consensus from two published literature reviews, and my current recommendations related to the BSCR concept. Please follow this series as I walk through the over 100-yr scientific journey on the BCSR concept from its initial conception to our current scientific consensus on the concept. Continue Reading.
Attend upcoming programs
If you are a landowner, farmer, cattle producer, or agricultural professional in Gage, Jefferson, and Saline counties, I encourage you to register and attend some of our upcoming Nebraska Extension programs in December and early January. Continue Reading.
Nebraska On-Farm Research Network: Working with John and Ritika
In the past year, Nebraska Extension has hired seven Water & Cropping Systems Extension Educators across the state. One of the most impactful roles for a Water & Cropping Systems Educator is to work with growers in their areas to conduct on-farm research. As a result of these new hires, there are great opportunities for farmers to engage with new Educators and grow the on-farm research base in many areas across the state where Educator positions have been vacant for several years. We are part of this new group of Educators, and we are very eager to develop on-farm research studies in our accountability regions in southeast Nebraska. Ritika covers Nemaha, Johnson, Pawnee, and Richardson counties, and John covers Lancaster, Cass, and Otoe. We are looking for any producers who may be interested in conducting research studies on their farms. Continue Reading.
