A Message From Principal Robertson
Hello Barnsley families,
Happy Fall!! It is hard to believe that we are already in the month of October. The first month of school always go by so quickly. Thank you to all of our families who attended our Back to School Night events this past month.
Progress reports will be available in Synergy for Marking Period 1. Progress reports are intended to provide a mid-marking period report of your child’s progress in a class. They are generated from the graded assignments in each course. In some instances, a class has not met frequently enough in the first few weeks of a marking period to generate graded assignments. In these cases there will be no progress report grade. By the end of the marking period, however, all courses will have grades on your child’s report card. If you have any questions/concerns regarding your child’s academic progress, please contact your child’s classroom teacher.
Our counselor, Mrs. Heatwole, will be hosting a virtual meeting on Monday, October 14th. She will be sharing information about middle school options to our rising 6th grade families. The meeting link and more information will be sent via Synergy. Be on the lookout for an email from Mrs. Heatwole!
We will be celebrating MCPS Mental Health Awareness week this month. In addition, we will have our LVBES Safety Drills Week by practicing some of our mandatory safety drills with students. We do not celebrate Halloween at Barnsley, but we are looking forward to a fun fall spirit week later this month. Please save the date for October 28th as this will be our fall individual pictures date.
We are looking forward to an eventful October here at Barnsley!
Sincerely,
Ms. Robertson
NEW LVBES LOGO
We are thrilled to announce that after over 6,500 votes we have a NEW LVBES LOGO. We are excited to start using this new logo on our future documents and spirit wear!
Parent Voice Survey Data
Last spring MCPS asked parents to fill out a parent survey. Although we had one of the HIGHEST response rates in all of MCPS, only had a 17% of our parents answered the survey. We are hoping to get some more data from parents this fall specifically in the area of equity and inclusion. Thank you in advance for your collaboration.

IMPORTANT UPDATE REGARDING PARENT VOLUNTEERS/CHAPERONES
MCPS has updated their volunteer policy. For the 2024-2025 school year, volunteers who are chaperoning a field trip (during the day, within the 50 mile radius, etc.) will need to be fingerprinted if they are SOLELY responsible for a group of students and will not be accompanying an MCPS staff member. For example: A teacher has a group of 30 students in their class and 2 volunteer chaperones. The teacher and each volunteer chaperone are responsible for 10 students each, but the groups separate leaving the volunteer chaperone by themselves to supervise the students. In these instances, parents will need to have a background check and be fingerprinted to attend the field trip. Parents will be responsible for the fingerprinting cost. Please see more information below.
Upcoming MCPS Events
National Walk and Roll to School Day
Wednesday, October 2 is National Walk and Roll to School Day. We encourage students, families, and staff to walk and/or bike to school to commemorate this very healthy and safe alternative traveling to school. More information is available at the following website: https://www.walkbiketoschool.org/.
National School Bus Safety Week
The Department of Transportation services approximately 102,000 students on our buses, logging 19.8 million miles per year. Our nearly 2,000 bus attendants and bus operators are tasked with an enormous responsibility to safely transport our students to and from more than 230 schools, field trips, and school-sponsored activities. School Bus Safety Week is held to raise awareness so that everyone can remain safe while students ride the bus. Please join us in saying thank you to all who transport Montgomery County Public Schools students by observing bus safety and sharing your gratitude!
Maryland State Police and the Maryland Center for School Safety remind motorists to stop for school buses. Pay attention when driving, especially in school zones during times of day when school buses are typically on routes. Stop when a bus stops for a routine stop. It is illegal to pass a school bus when its red lights are flashing. Prepare to stop when the school bus is flashing its yellow lights and be cautious of students moving towards buses during these times. Students of all ages are unpredictable. Therefore, prepare for the unexpected and maintain a safe distance from school buses at all times.
