Wow! This summer has flown by, and I cannot believe it is August already! I hope that you have had a chance to enjoy it with your family and friends. I intentionally try to let everybody relax and not bombard you with information. I will send my "welcome back" communications in a couple weeks, because everyone is still enjoying family time. I do have a couple quick updates for you at this point and also wanted to let you know about a few things happening at this time:

1. August 8 Millage Renewal - I assume you saw my previous communication about the August 8 millage renewals, but I just wanted to try and remind everyone to please vote on August 8! If you have questions, the FAQ document that was shared contains many pieces of information about what this proposal is.
   
   
2. Transportation and Online Enrollment - Below is a detailed explanation about how to register for transportation and confirm your online enrollment details. Please note that you will need to complete this process if you need transportation this year. Again, the instructions are in the article below to review.
   
   
3. Elementary Summer Reading Days - Just a reminder that coming up this month is our 2nd Annual Summer Reading Days! We will have games, meet some staff, and read a few books. It is a great way for everybody to see some friends and get excited about the start of school! Here is the schedule :
   
   August 17, at 9:30 AM - Orchard Hills - Novi Rotary Park
   August 21 at 10:00 AM - Novi Woods - Novi Public Library
   August 22, at 9:30 AM - Village Oaks - Novi Brookfarm Park

4. Kindergarten Enrollment - If you have a young Wildcat or you know someone who does, please do not forget about our kindergarten enrollment, which continues for the district. We rely these enrollment numbers for building appropriate staffing levels that are based on the number of children we have attending. If you will have a kindergarten student next year or if you know someone in Novi who will have a student starting next year, please have them contact our Enrollment Office at: enrollment@novik12.org

Online Annual Registration is active on the PowerSchool Parent Portal for parents or guardians to review and complete for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. This is an opportunity to make sure that your students information is accurate, update emergency contacts, change any preferences in relation to information or media release, as well as request bus transportation. This process is in addition to any onsite registration or orientation that will be hosted by your child's school this month (e.g. Novi High School and Novi Middle School). Here is how to complete the process:

1. Login using your parent portal credentials, Online Annual Registration is not available using student credentials (student credentials are typically a number). If you have misplaced your credentials, please contact your student's building with your name, phone number, email address, and child/children's names or send an email to parentportal@novik12.org.

   This process is most easily completed using a desktop or a laptop. While it can be done on the browser of your mobile device or on the app, screen size will be something for you to consider.
   
   
2. Once you have logged into parent portal, scroll down and select "Forms", from the Navigation menu on the left side of the screen. The Online Annual Registration forms will appear on the General tab under the category of 2023-2024 Online Annual Registration.
   
   
3. Select Form 1. NOVI Online Annual Registration - Student Information 2023-2024 and upon submission, you will automatically advance to the next form, until completion of all forms. The process should take approximately 5-10 minutes per student to complete, depending on the complexity of the updates you need to make. You will need to do this for each of your students. To complete Online Annual Registration for additional students select the next student from the blue ribbon just above the Navigation menu.

All Novi Middle School and Novi High School forms are required to be completed prior to any on-site registration events at your child’s school. All other students will need to completed by August 27, 2023. Watch your inbox for more information regarding Novi Middle School and Novi High School registration, including our online payment system, which is new this year. More details will follow later this month by your student’s school.

Please be aware, transportation for your student needs to be requested through this process.

More than a dozen Novi football players and family members volunteered at Special Olympics Michigan's Inclusion Night at the Detroit Zoo. The football players helped run some of the SOMI (Special Oplympics of Michigan) Sports Sampling and Activity Stations, including golf, bocce ball and hockey.

Novi High School was recognized as a National Unified Champion Banner School by Special Olympics North America in August 2020 and the banner was unveiled at halftime of the Unified basketball game in January 2022.

Superintendent Mainka surprised a few NCSD families last Thursday by dropping off some green and white swag at their homes. Mainka plans to make more surprise visits weekly around the community.

He chatted with the students and their families about summer vacation and what they were looking forward to most for the upcoming school year. It was a great way to start to generate momentum heading into the new school year and make a few young Wildcats have a special surprise!

Coming soon will be additional information regarding the ability to pay online for the middle school and the high school. This online payment system will be ready to launch, in the PowerSchool Parent Portal, in about a week. School will keep you posted through their communication processes.
