Shining Stars: Celebrating Our May Student Leaders
Kasey Verrill
Kasey Verrill is a wonderful example of an eager, hardworking student. All year she has taken an active role in class. She volunteers often to answer questions and is always ready for a challenge. She isn't afraid to ask questions when something isn't clear and this helps others who may be too scared to raise their hand. She works well in any group she is part of showing patience when others seem upset or frustrated. Kasey is a student willing to try any task asked of her. And whether she succeeds or not, she is always willing to try again the next time.

Charley Robertson
Charley Robertson is my choice for student of the month. Charley is always focusing on what must be done and using her time appropriately to ensure she gets her classwork done. Charley is a kind and responsible young lady. She is respectful to her peers and other adults in the building. Charley works well with others and ensures that people are included and get all the help they need. If Charley sets a goal she is determined to reach it which is a great motivator to others in her classroom. This makes her a great leader.

Isaiah Maust
I would like to nominate Isaiah Maust. Isaiah has a positive attitude and willingness to work in class. He goes out of his way to help myself or others if needed. I frequently catch him being respectful, responsible, safe, and kind. Way to go, Isaiah, keep up the great work, you have a bright future ahead of you!

MSU 4-H China Art Exchange
Ryan Elementary students participated in the MSU 4-H China Art Exchange this year. After our students completed their projects, the projects are sent to MSU (along with many other schools from across the state) to see if they are selected for the exchange. We had four students that were selected: Leilani Morrison, Emily Luna, Dawson Hurd, and Braelyn Miller. Their artwork will be sent to China.

Show & Tell
By Cooper Carpenter, Aiden Rissman, Dalton Arnett, Kayden Smith
We did a show and tell on April 24th. We earned the show and tell by filling a jar with marbles by being good. There were 9 different things people brought, and they were all outstanding.
Cooper brought his baby brother, and his baby brother had a lot of energy and really good clothes. Isaiah brought his dad, who owns a trucking and construction company. He gave us: cards, squishy hats, and pens.
Aiden brought his dog; it was really big and he is a domesticated wolf. Hayden brought his dog. It was a really fluffy Husky. Julia brought her mini goat, it was very energetic and loves grass.
Dalton brought a football picture, it was a signed picture of Blake Corum. Christa brought her brother’s pictures, she explained where and why the pictures were taken. Maiyah brought in her wrestling trophies, they were very impressive.
All the things that were brought were really interesting. They were also very unique in their own way.
Fun with Gunk
By Cooper Carpenter, Aiden Rissman, Dalton Arnett, Kayden Smith
On April 26th Ms. Snellenbergers class made gunk. We mixed starch and glue to make a slimy gooey texture.
We were challenged to make really bouncy and really stretchy slime. Some of us did really well and made it really stretchy or bouncy, while some of us made it extremely sticky. It was really fun making it and only 1 person was gone. It was white because we didn’t use food coloring.
It was easier to make stretchy slime. You needed to put more glue than starch so it wouldn’t rip. It was very fun to play
with the stretchy gunk.
It was harder to make bouncy slime. You need to put in more starch so it can weigh less. It was extremely fun to play with the bouncy slime, even though barely anyone was able to make it.
Gunk is one of the most fun things we did in a half day. I'm a big fan of slime, it was really fun.
4th Grade Trip to Hayes State Park
Ryan Elementary students participated in the Nature Awaits program offered by the State of Michigan. The program aims to make sure Michigan’s kids learn that our state parks are for everyone, and that a lifetime of spending time outdoors is good for our physical and mental health. Each park has a trained educator who focused on meeting 4th grade curriculum standards including science, social studies, physical fitness and language arts through experiential learning outdoors.
During our visit, students learned about:
- How humans impact natural landscapes.
- The native and invasive plants and animals of the park.
- How Michigan's state parks belong to everyone in the state.
**Students received a junior ranger badge and guidebook. On the back of the guidebook is a free pass for the students to bring their families back to any state park for another visit.
3rd Grade Trip to the Kalamazoo Air Zoo
Our 3rd grade students explored the many aspects of the Air Zoo from rides and simulators to making and learning about the scientific method with slime! The kids were given a scavenger hunt to learn about the different airplanes throughout history!
