A NOTE FROM MRS. B
Howdy Bronco Family! I can’t believe that February is almost here! It seems like yesterday we came back from the Christmas Break. The students are rolling right along. Mid-year assessments have been completed, and we are seeing some awesome academic growth from the students. It’s so delightful to see them excited about all the progress they are making.
We also know how to have some fun at Burleson Elementary. The 100th Day of School is only a few weeks away on February 13th. We will mark that day with fun activities. Valentine’s Day parties will be the next day on the 14th. Your child’s teacher will send information about those.
Winter isn’t over yet, so please make sure your child is dressed appropriately. Also, if you child is missing a jacket, sweatshirt, hoodie, etc., they are located in the foyer of the building if they were turned into the office.
Remember, you can always find the latest Meadow ISD news on the MISD website and Facebook page, so go check them out! Also, check your kiddo’s backpack and folders for any important paper notes that may have gone home.
Don’t forget to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions about what is going on in the classroom. We are always here to help.
It’s ALWAYS great to be a Bronco!

MRS. SANCHEZ - KINDERGARTEN
Hello,
We have been busy in Kindergarten. Last week, we finished up with Map testing in Reading and Math. I will send those results to as soon as every one finishes testing. I am so proud of the progress that all the students have made. Keep up the great work!
-Phonics- We have worked on generating words that contain particular sounds, separate compound words, and reading words with blends in initial or final positions. Last week, we worked on the letters Vv, Jj, and this week we will work on Xx, and Ww.
-In Math we have worked on comparing numbers 11-20. The students had to identify which was greater or which was less than. We also worked generating a number that is more, or less than another. The students have also worked on solving and extending number patterns for numbers 11-20. On Wednesday, we will finish up with numbers through 20. Then we will start on the next unit with numbers through 30.
Science- We will finish up our unit on Weather. The students will go try out their windsocks one day this week, because on Friday, it was way too windy, and on Tuesday it was way too cold. The students have learned about different types of weather and using correct clothing for each type of weather.
Sight words- Please continue to practice new sight words that were added this week.
AR – Please read the library book to your child for at least 20 minutes, so that they can take an AR test the next day. We now have new AR goals for this third quarter.
Thank you,
Mrs. Sanchez
MS. DAWDY - 1ST GRADE
We are finishing up our space unit by learning about all of the planets. They have had so much fun with this unit and learned so many things! In math we are continuing to use tens and ones to represent our numbers. This week, we added in numbers 101-120. Your student is becoming a story teller by practicing writing stories that have a beginning, middle and end. This chilly weather has come at such a great time for our science unit all about weather and how it changes based on the season- but also for our space unit! They have talked a lot about how the earth tilts and changes the season.
Please practice your sight word cards every night and listen to your child read. They are all making great progress toward their AR point goals!!
MRS. ALANIZ - 2ND GRADE
Super second graders! We have so many exciting things going on and coming up! We are almost done with middle of year testing, parent teacher conferences will be coming soon for us!
Our class started robotics this week. We will be working closely with Mrs.Woodard's robotics team to learn all about coding and problem solving! Our skills will be put to the test when we compete in the Meadow Robotics Competition (more information to come). I am so excited for this opportunity and our class is already doing a wonderful job at learning new skills.
We are also in week 2 of our READ-Bowl competition! We are competing against students all around the world to see who will be named the READ-Bowl champions! Please continue to encourage your student to read every single day and remind them to keep using their timers and logging their minutes.
Our spelling test will be next Tuesday!
Please continue practicing sight words.
(Time spent studying these words can be logged as minutes towards their reading log time!)
Remember the only way to get better at something is to practice!
Thank you for all you do!
Mrs.Alaniz

MRS. BAYER - 4TH GRADE
This week we had our first student make the AR 100 Point Club. Congratulations to Hannah Houchin!!! This is a huge accomplishment, and it takes consistent reading both at home and school. We have about 3 other students who are very close to meeting this goal as well. Keep encouraging your child to read at least 15 minutes every day! Next week, I will be able to share an exciting challenge that will hopefully help every one get even more excited about reading.
MS. GAMEZ -5TH GRADE
Fantastic 4th Grade & Marvelous 5th Grade Math
-In 4th grade, we are working on different kinds of graphs. Some of the graphs we are learning about are frequency tables, dot plots, and stem and leaf. We are learning how to read them and create them. The wording in the questions is more complex and trickier than just who has the most and who has the least. Sometimes students have to actually work a problem to get the answer because it is not just a short yes or no answer. This is frustrating to some students.
-In 5th grade, we are working on shapes, how to classify and differentiate them and eventually using formulas to get their perimeter and area. After we wrap up learning perimeter and area, we will work on measurement conversions. Please keep us in your thoughts, that will be one of our toughest units.
Thank you for your support, for making sure your student is in class and does their homework every day.
Stacy Gamez
Estamos aprendiendo a leerlos y crearlos.
Sra. Stacy Gamez

COUSELOR'S CORNER - MRS. ESTES
Hi Bronco fam! This week we started discussing post-secondary options with college. We talked about all the different kind of colleges there are and how much they could cost, what options they have to pay for school, campus life and dorm options, and other basic things they might need to know about college. We will begin talking about career options very soon too! It's always a good idea to discuss these things with your kids from a very early age. Talk with them about your job and what type of school you had to attend for what your career is. They will be asking questions soon!
¡Hola familia Bronco!
A NOTE FROM OUR NURSE -RAE CAMPBELL
Parents,
I would like to remind you that if your child did not pass their vision and/or hearing screens, they need to be taken to the appropriate physician as soon as possible. I have sent another letter home with your child this week. The physician needs to fill out and sign the bottom portion of the referral letter and it needs to be returned to the office. These visits are completely covered by Medicaid. If your child does not have vision insurance or Medicaid, you may qualify for a vision voucher. Please let me know as soon as possible if you need the form to request a voucher. If your child cannot see or hear, they may be struggling in the classroom. Therefore, it is in your child's best interest to have a professional examination.
We have had several students out this week with the flu. If your child is running a fever of 100.4 or higher, please keep them home. They may not return to school until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of tylenol or motrin. Please be diligent in reminding your children to cover their mouths and wash their hands frequently.
Rae Campbell, BSN, RN
School Nurse
Meadow ISD
Padres,
