All Things RE
October, 2024
In our RE newsletter, All Things RE, you'll find important and interesting information about Religious Education and Family Programming.
Trunk or Treat
Join us October 27th, after service, from 11:15 AM to 1 PM for a Spooktacular time! There will be Halloween themed car trunks loaded with goodies, games, prizes, a fortune teller, lunch, and so much more. Please pass the word and join in the fun!
Nursery
The nursey will continue to be staffed weekly for the entire length of the service with one to two nursery assistants, depending on the number of toddlers.
RE Classes
Visitors are always welcome in our Kindergarten-to-Second Grade and Third-to-Sixth Grade classes, and registration is open throughout the year. Given the sensitive nature of the Our Whole Lives curriculum, registration for this class is now closed.
The Kindergarten-to-Second Grade Class will continue working with the UUA World of Wonder Curriculum. “This program delves deep into our Unitarian Universalist seventh Principle. It instills respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part, and appreciation of its beauty, excitement, and mystery. It is founded on the premise that direct experience in nature is essential to children's physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual development.” Upcoming classes on October 6th and 13th will explore the Balance in Nature and the importance of balance in the web of life, and Habitats are environments that support all the needs of the plants and animals that live there.
The Third-to-Sixth Grade Class will be using the UUA Moral Tales Curriculum that addresses the many issues that our children face and the difficult decisions and situations they must address. Moral Tales attempts to provide children with the spiritual and ethical tools they will need to make choices and take actions reflective of their Unitarian Universalist beliefs and values. On the 6th they will think about actions they can take that help make their gratitude be felt by others, their apologies be heard by others, their wishes and hopes become real, and their loving (healing) wishes to be felt by others. October 13th class will focus on empathy as a tool for treating others with caring, compassion and respect, and for making moral decisions about how to act in the world
We will be offering the Our Whole Lives (OWL) curriculum to the Middle and Early High School students. “OWL curriculum has been developed by the UUA and UCC with the goal of helping participants make informed and responsible decisions about their relationships, health and behavior. Participants have October 6th off, but classes will be held on October 13th, 20th and 27th.
3rd to 6th Grade Class After Hard Work on Their Covenant
Inter-Generational Services October 20th and 27th
We have two intergenerational services scheduled this month.
On October 20th the congregation will have a “Celebration (and blessing) of the Animals.” In this service we will reflect on our kinship, connection and duty towards in our lives. Service will be downstairs in the Fellowship Hall, and you are invited to bring your well-behaved pet, or a photo or memento of an animal that has meant something important to you in your life.
On October 27th we will hold our annual Day of the Dead/"Dia de los Muertos" service. We will have some special music, and Rev. Tony's sermon will refer to the dash that lies in between the date of birth and the date of death. Feel free to bring a photo or artifact from a loved one, to be brought up to our "altar" for our remembrance ritual.
