BDJH PTA News Feb 4
2025
Our fabulous PTA president, Kim Carter is thoroughly committed to serving our school and community. Her approach is one of inclusion, which ensures a welcoming environment for families, students and those of us fortunate enough to serve on her board. Kim is always busy attending every possible event, serving on multiple committees and ensuring the smooth running of the PTA. Thank you, Kim, for always putting our school first and doing the job with such heart!
Deepa Parakh
Deepa joined the board as PTA treasurer this year and we are so lucky to have her! It is a massive undertaking, that requires year round attention to detail and a meticulous approach. We can't thank her enough for the countless hours she dedicates to getting the job done!

** TODDLER/KINDER PICTURES NEEDED**
8th Grade Parents and Guardians:
Please submit a picture of your child (toddler-kinder preferred) to be used at the 8th grade dance for the “Wall of Fame” using the form below.
"The "Wall of Fame" is a fun tradition at BDJH where the hallway between the cafeteria and gymnasium is lined with photos of the 8th grade class for the week leading to the 8th Grade Dance. We have the "now" photos from the yearbook but need your help with the "then" photos.
Now is a good time to review your student's privacy codes in the Home Access Center: if you select NO for your student, even if you submit a baby picture they will not be included in the Wall of Fame. A collage will be made for every student with a yearbook photo and will be distributed at the end of the dance.
If you have any questions, please contact Kathleen Brennen at kmbrennen@hotmail.com
The Texas legislature is in session! The first 30 days are for procedural votes and bill filing. House and Senate committees can start considering bills after the first 30 days of session. However, the Texas constitution doesn't allow bills to pass either chamber during the first 60 days (of the 140-day-long legislative session that happens only every other year!), unless the governor declares it an "emergency item."
There is a good chance the voucher bill that recently passed out of the Texas Senate Education Committee will be declared an "emergency item" during Governor Abbott's State of the State address Sunday February 2nd.
Therefore it is important that we start letting our elected officials now to tell them that we want to Keep Public Dollars in Public Schools. As proposed, Senate Bill 2 (SB2) would provide $10,000 per student per year for students attending accredited private schools. It would provide $11,500 for students with disabilities, and $2,000 for homeschooling children. Ironically, the basic allotment of taxpayer money for each child in Texas public schools is just $6,160 (a number that hasn't increased since 2019, despite inflation raising costs).
You can easily email your elected officials through Texas PTA or Katy ISD websites.
