February, often associated with hearts and love, is the perfect time to shine a spotlight on kindness. The students at Allen just wrapped up The Great Kindness Challenge, a week of looking for opportunities to show kindness. More than just a fleeting gesture, kindness is a powerful force that can brighten someone's day, ease a burden, or even inspire positive change. This month, let's challenge ourselves to perform small acts of kindness, whether it's offering a helping hand, sharing a kind word, or simply listening with an open heart. Let's fill our homes, school, and community with compassion and understanding, creating a ripple effect of positivity.

Monday, February 17 is President's Day. Students will not have school on this day. Enjoy the long weekend!

We are so excited to host the first annual K-2 STEAM Night at Allen coming up this month! Our families will have an opportunity to connect while investigating how things work, building and creating. Doors will open at 5pm. There will be robots, rockets, roller coasters and more! Plan to attend this educational family event February 27th from 5-6:30pm!

Our little Panthers got the chance to connect with the SSHS Panther Homecoming court. After a hallway parade, the visitors read to classes before waving goodbye at dismissal.

Our second graders are beginning their Math unit on fractions. They will learn about halves, thirds, and fourths. Make sure to point out any items at home or out in the community that are divided into equal parts. We want our kids to apply their learning in the world around them.

Both grade levels are working hard on thinking about what we read or what is read to us. First and second graders are being taught to ask and answer questions about the stories they read or have read to them. Read to your child and ask them questions about what you are reading. Try having them ask you some questions too.

Literacy Lab is a favorite at Allen. This is a thirty minute time each day that students are grouped according to the literacy skill they are working on. Teachers and interventionists disperse the students from the team into skill specific groups and work to reteach missing foundational reading concepts or enrich vocabulary and deepen comprehension for our students who are already reading proficiently. We believe passionately in the development of foundational literacy.
