A Message from the Principal
Hello Woodland Families,
We've been having an amazing time celebrating March is Reading Month! A huge thank you to all of our mystery readers who have taken the time to share stories with our students. An extra big thank you to Officer Brian Jones and Troy Mayor Ethan Baker for being special guest readers this week! Your visits made reading even more exciting for our Wildcats, and we are so grateful for your support.
At Woodland, we believe that Wildcats start the day strong by arriving to school on time, ready to learn! When students arrive on time, they have the opportunity to settle in, take their time eating breakfast, connect with their classmates, and engage in important morning routines that set the tone for a successful day.
When students arrive late, it can be difficult for them to transition smoothly into the classroom. They may miss important morning instructions, feel rushed or unsettled, and have a harder time getting into the right mindset for learning. Arriving on time helps students start the day with confidence and focus!
To help our Wildcats make it to school on time, here are some helpful tips:
- Get plenty of rest – A well-rested Wildcat is ready to learn!
- Prepare the night before – Lay out clothes, pack backpacks, and make lunches ahead of time.
- Set alarms early – Wildcats rise and shine with plenty of time to get ready.
- Follow a morning routine – A simple checklist can help keep students on track.
- Plan for traffic or weather delays – Leaving a few minutes early helps our Wildcats avoid a last-minute rush.
🚗 Late Arrival Reminder: If you arrive after 8:32 AM and there is no staff member, such as Mrs. Rosinski, in the parking lot waving in cars, parents must walk their children into the school office and sign them in to ensure they are safely checked in.
Thank you for partnering with us to help our Wildcats build strong habits and set them up for success! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the office. Let’s make every morning a great one!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Mrs. Katalin Rosinski

March is Reading Month
We are excited about our upcoming 'March is Reading Month' activities. Our theme this year is 'March Madness - A Tournament of Reading.' This week, we started our school-wide Book Character Bingo game. Each class has a bingo board with well-known book characters on it, and Mrs. Rosinski will pick one character each morning during the morning announcements. Throughout the month, we will have several mystery/guest readers share their love of reading with our students.
What Are Some Ways to Encourage School-Age Readers?
Once your child begins nursery school, preschool, or elementary school, you should work with his/her teacher to improve his/her reading skills. Many teachers are now sending home practical ideas for parents to use with their school-age children to help them develop skills and to encourage good reading habits. Ask your child’s teacher for these practice activities. By reinforcing the skills your child’s teacher emphasizes, you will be supplementing what he/she has learned about reading throughout the school day.
Additional ways to encourage your school-age child to read are listed below:
Continue being a good role model
Let your child see you read.
Encourage your child to read on his/her own at home
Reading at home can help your child do better in school.Keep a variety of reading materials in the house
Make sure to have reading materials for enjoyment as well as for reference.
Encourage your child to practice reading aloud
Frequently listen to your child read out loud and praise them often. Offer to read every other page or even every other chapter to your child. Have conversations and discussions about the book with your child.Write short notes for your child to read
Write down their weekly household responsibilities for them to keep track of or put a note in their lunch bag.Encourage activities that require reading
Cooking (reading a recipe), constructing a kite (reading directions), or identifying a bird’s nest or a shell at the beach (reading a reference book) are some examples.
Establish a reading time, even if it’s only 10 minutes each day
Make sure there is a good reading light in your child’s room and stock their bookshelves with books and magazines that are easy to both read and reach.Talk with your child
Talking makes children think about their experiences more and helps them expand their vocabularies. Ask your child to give detailed descriptions of events and to tell complete stories.Give your child writing materials
Reading and writing go hand in hand. Children want to learn to write and to practice writing. If you make pencils, crayons, and paper available at all times, your child will be more inclined to initiate writing activities on their own.Restrict television time
The less time your child spends watching television, the more time he/she will have for reading-related activities.Visit the library once a week
Have your child apply for their own library card so they can check out books on their own for schoolwork and for pleasure reading. Ask your child to bring home a library book to read to a younger sibling and encourage them to check out books on tape that they can listen to on long car trips.Work in partnership with your child’s school
The more you know about the type of reading program your child’s school follows, the more you can help by supplementing the program at home. Offer to volunteer in the classroom or school library as often as your schedule allows. Ask the school for parent participation materials.

Positivity Project - P2
Perspective
This week, our school community focused on the trait of Perspective. This means that you appreciate that people see things in different ways. You have the ability to understand the world from multiple points of view. Perspective is also referred to as wisdom. It is distinct from intelligence. People with this strength are sought out for advice. They see the big picture and can make sense of the world's complexity. The strength of perspective gives individuals the ability to see to the heart of difficult questions and achieve clarity. Importantly, they are also honest and behave in an ethically consistent manner.
Why Does it Matter?
Perspective helps an individual make sense of the world. It provides clarity on what maters and what does not. Being able to see things from multiple angle shelps individuals remain calm and learn from mistakes. Individuals with this strength are typically highly self-aware. Reflecting on their own feelings, thoughts, and motives helps them understand and empathize with other people. These individuals are strong listeners and ask great questions.
To practice and encourage the character strength of prudence with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2) where together you will watch a video, read a quote and talk about the answers to three questions.
Next week, we will focus on Identifying and Appreciating the Good in Others.
Happy Birthday!!
