A Note From The Principal
Welcome April!
Multicultural Night celebrations were a highlight and gift to have our community engaging in conversation and learning together. After the end of March and Spring Break, it was refreshing to have students back in our building, smiling and learning.
Literacy or the work of being a reader and writer is a huge part of our academic focus and success for our learners. It is the foundation for so many other topics and arts for our kids as they grow and learn. Our school district has an important decision to make regarding reading and writing materials that we will be using in classrooms with students starting next fall. I encourage you to review the curriculum for Language Arts and English Language Proficiency through one of the below options. We need your input and feedback.
You will be seeing communication from teachers at the end of next week about conferences through ParentSquare. Please prioritize this individualized time to celebrate growth as well as ways we can work together to focus on your child's learning this spring.
If your child has missing items please go through lost and found, all remaining clothes will be donated to clothes for kids after conferences.
In Community,
Melissa

NEEDED!! Plastic Lids and Bottle Caps
We need your help. Chehalem has been awarded an Arts for Learning grant that is focused on a community art project in our Pre-K- 5th grade classes. We will need to start collecting bottle caps, plastic lids and tops (in school and at home) please help us gather washed recyclable lids for our project. Lids can be brought to a collection container in the office or on the sharing table in the cafeteria. THANK YOU
Food for thought- What is Neurodiversity?
The neurodiversity movement is a social justice movement based on the philosophy that different ways of thinking and behaving should be embraced and are natural variations of being human.
Approximately 15-20% of the population has a neurological difference. Neurodivergent people experience, interact with, and interpret the world in unique ways. That can sometimes create challenges. What would it be like if everyone noticed the strengths that can come from these differences first, instead of the challenges?
Here's a video for kids explaining neurodivergence and the unique gifts neurodiverse minds bring to the world...
