Seymour Newsletter
October 2024
Greetings, and welcome to the month of October! As the leaves change colors, and the weather cools we continue to see great things going on at Seymour Elementary! I would like to shine a light on the incredible work our students and staff are doing to embrace the Positivity Project and Promoting a Positive School Climate at Seymour Elementary. The dedication is truly spreading positivity throughout our school community.
The Positivity Project focuses on fostering positive character traits, social-emotional learning, and building a strong compassionate community within our school. It is centered around character education and teaches students about various character strengths, such as gratitude, kindness, teamwork and empathy. Students then develop the "Other People Matter", mindset, which emphasizes the significance of recognizing and valuing the people around us, fostering empathy, and building positive relationships. We encourage all parents and guardians to engage in conversations about the character strength being taught that week to reinforce the values we promote at school.
Also, at Seymour Elementary, we continue to promote a positive school climate by recognizing and reinforcing positive behaviors within our school. Students earn "Raider Tickets" when demonstrating positive behavior and character. These Raider tickets are drawn throughout the week and at our monthly assemblies to reward students for their positive behavior. We also continue to recognize students with "positive behavior referrals" and "Knights of the Month". We will continue to do what it takes to make Seymour Elementary a place committed to fostering a positive culture where every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and be the very best they can be.
i-READY
Exciting News: Introducing i-Ready at Our School
This year, we are thrilled to announce that we will be using i-Ready, a new tool designed to support your child’s learning in both reading and mathematics. i-Ready is an online program that helps teachers assess students' individual needs and create personalized learning paths to help each student grow academically. With this program, we aim to provide targeted instruction that addresses the specific areas where each child can improve, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to thrive.
How i-Ready Works
i-Ready starts with an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions based on your child's responses. This assessment allows us to get a deeper understanding of where your child is excelling and where they may need additional support. Once the assessment is complete, i-Ready provides individualized lessons tailored to each student's learning level. These lessons are both engaging and interactive, keeping students motivated as they work at their own pace.
How i-Ready Benefits Your Child
With the insights gained from i-Ready, our teachers will be able to meet the needs of every student more effectively. The program not only strengthens core reading and math skills but also tracks your child’s growth throughout the year. Our goal is to ensure that every student is progressing and feeling confident in their learning. You can also be involved at home by supporting your child with these online lessons, as the platform is accessible both at school and at home.
We are excited to see the impact i-Ready will have on our students' success this year!
