Food Service News Flash: Shortages and Supplies
Shortages and supply chain issues have brought great challenges at all points of the food chain -- from raw materials and manufacturing to packaging and transporting. In addition to food, this shortage affects the paper products used to serve meals, and even the trays that are a mainstay in the cafeteria, among other items.
At the same time, many schools are affected by staffing issues, with workers retiring or leaving the profession. Yet, despite these challenges, our nutrition teams are working tirelessly behind the scenes to secure the necessary items needed to provide students with a healthy and balanced meal.
Nutrition Services is optimistic the situation will improve as we move through the school year. Please keep in mind there may be situations where the menu will change with little notice. Nutrition Services will communicate menu updates via Nutrislice.

Annual Ipad Protection Plan
The Annual Optional Protection Plan that covers accidental damage or theft to the iPad has returned! Students are not automatically enrolled as they have been in previous years. If your family does not accept the optional protection plan by September 19th it is assumed you will decline the coverage. Find out more on the Back to School website: https://www.district196.org/about/back-to-school#fs-panel-141928
School Supplies
A "general" school supply list isn't maintained by AVHS. Standard notebooks, pencils, pens, and folders will be useful for all classes. Students will be informed of any specific supply requirements by their teachers. If purchasing school supplies is a hardship for families, please contact your student's counselor. https://avhs.district196.org/families/avhs-counselors
For Intermediate Algebra, Geometry, and Honors Geometry, you will need a scientific calculator. All AP math classes, CLA/DE, and Multivariable Calculus require a graphing calculator. Intermediate Algebra and Geometry students can purchase and use a graphing calculator immediately, which can be used for all subsequent math courses.
Safe drop off and pick up procedures at AVHS
Parking Permits
Apple Valley High School issues parking permits for each trimester. The parking fee each trimester is $60 and may be paid on MyPaymentsPlus. All outstanding fees/fines must be paid in full in order to pick up the parking permit tag in the main office.
Students will receive a parking agreement to follow the safety guidelines and map for the parking lot.
Students in need of accessible parking should contact Assistant Administrator Paul Tinder at Paul.Tinder@district196.org or call 952-431-8341. All other questions can be directed to Jackie Preble at 952-431-8224.
10th and 11th Grade IPAD Exchange
10th and 11th grade returning students will exchange their current iPad for a new device in September. Help make this transition easier by backing up anything on the iPad that would be missed to the cloud. Backup Notability by clicking on the gear in the app and turn on the desired service to save to, as this app does not do so automatically. New students to the school will receive their devices on the first few days of the school year.

Dear Parents/Guardians,
On behalf of the faculty and staff at Apple Valley High School, we want to welcome you to the 2022-23 school year! School begins for our students on August 31st this year. Our first day of school has a special schedule with our 9th-grade students reporting for school at 7:40 am and students in grades 10-12 beginning their day at 11 am. We have arranged bus transportation options for students depending on their schedule for the day.

We are also excited that our school day and year should model the more traditional format that our families and students expect while still being mindful of health and safety.
In this newsletter, we hope to provide you with some basic information and important dates to help you prepare for the school year. We look forward to seeing you at the start of the school year and to working with you to help students add to our school’s tremendous legacy of success. August 24th: Orientation Night for 9th Grade & New Students & Guardians
We are excited to begin this journey together this fall, as the transition to high school is a BIG deal! Our goal is for your student to succeed and understand what to expect as an Eagle, regardless of whether they are new to high school or new to AVHS.
Administrators and staff members will introduce themselves and share tips and tricks for a successful school year. Immediately following the presentation, students can walk through their schedules and ask questions before school begins (Wednesday, August 31st). Families are encouraged to bring their students with them.
For a more personalized experience and to avoid congestion, families with the last names A-K are asked to attend from 6 pm to 7 pm and families with the last names L-Z from 7 pm to 8 pm. Alternatively, if this preferred time is not convenient for your family, please feel free to come at the time that is most convenient for you.
