Exciting News at Evans Park - Feb/Mar
Together We Can Spring Into Action
Dear Evans Park Elementary Community,
The beginning of spring is a truly exciting time of the year! Our students are seeing the fruits of their hard work, we're beginning the transition to the next grade level, and the warmer weather is allowing us more opportunities to come together again as a community.
At Evans Park, we have had an incredibly busy February and early March with much to do and many things to celebrate! I am excited to share some of the wonderful moments we've experienced together this past month and how our community, and students, continue to grow. This past month is truly an example of the power of community, learning, and empathy are bringing to life our commitment that "Together we Can" ensure all students will succeed!
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership,
Joe Avdek

Evans Events - Feb/Mar
100 Days of Learning
On February 9th, we celebrated our 100th day of learning by coming together and doing 100 exercises as a school. Our kindergartners also reflected on all of the fabulous learning they've done since joining the Pearl River School District!
Many of our students showed their excitement for their learning journey by dressing up as their 100 year old selves. It is incredible to reflect on our progress this school year and the places we will go!
Celebrating the Lunar New Year
Throughout the month of February, our students celebrated Lunar New Year with various lessons, read-alouds, and learning activities as our school community rang in the Year of the Dragon!
Students at Evans Park Elementary School came together in our hallways to celebrate the Lunar New Year with a parade led by our kindergartners! Lunar New Year is a celebration of the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new year on the lunisolar calendar.
Tigers Show Gratitude
What better way to celebrate Valentine's Day than by crafting cards expressing gratitude to those who served our country? Students at Evans Park Elementary School created colorful Valentine's Day card creations with thoughtful messages dedicated to local veterans.
Evans Park Tigers joined forces as kindergarteners and their third grade 'Book Buddies' paired up to write letters and draw designs in celebration of Valentine's Day - tying into kindergartners' unit focused on writing for other people.

Tigers Show Empathy
Empathy means thinking about how others feel and how we can recognize the emotions that bring us together. This month, students were celebrated for showing a Little Spot of Empathy towards one another at our monthly assembly.
As an extra-special part of our assembly, the Tigers' Student Council joined in to share a special poem and help bring our school all together. Thank you to all of our students for showing empathy and working to connect with one another!
Tigers Together Can Support School Belonging
PBIS Kick-Off Assembly
On February 27th, all of Evans Park gathered together to discuss how Tigers can be respectful, ready, responsible, and safe. As a whole school, we highlighted how positive behaviors help build our community and support connections between students, staff, and families.
On February 29th, all classes toured the building to discuss how they can show positive behaviors in our hallways, cafeteria, bus, recess area, and in our classrooms. At Evans Park, together we can support school belonging!
Celebrating Tigers
Following our PBIS Kick-Off Assembly, students can receive recognition for their positive behaviors that exceed the expectations of our community. Staff will reward tickets to students that demonstrate how Tigers can be responsible, respectful, and safe. Classes with the most tickets will be announced every week and will have the opportunity to gain rewards.
Tigers Taking the Lead
All students who applied will have an opportunity to take on a leadership role throughout the school year. We are so proud of all of our students for taking on this challenge to be a role model for all!
Tigers Are WILD about Reading
On March 4th, Evans Park began our 'One School, One Book' campaign with "The Wild Robot" written by Peter Brown. Every student has the opportunity to read the fantastical tale of Roz the Robot and her journey to survive on a remote wild island.
We encourage all families to follow along as Evans Park reads this book together and gets to explore a novel as a community. Every night a chapter is available online to be read by a surprise member of the Evans Park community. Please check out the promotion letter for more info.
PARP - Pick A Reading Partner
Our Pick A Reading Partner (PARP) program is designed to foster the love of books through reading at home individually or with others. Our PARP program started off with an amazing assembly that celebrated how "Reading is Magic!" Students were excited to start this wonderful literacy promotion and discover the power of books in bringing us together.
During the month of February, we welcomed in community members to read to our students. The culminating day of Rockland Read-In served as an all-day event where students showed their commitment to being life-long readers. Pearl River and Evans Park were highlighted for their support of the 40th anniversary of this initiative! Please check out the video featured in Lohud.
Tiger Tee Tuesday - March 19th, 2024
Once a month, students gather in our halls for morning announcements on a Tuesday for Tiger Tee Day. This is a wonderful time for our K-4 students and staff to come and join together in song to celebrate Evans Park and our community. We look forward to coming together again as a school and celebrating our community on March 19th!
Evans Park PTA
All parents and teachers are urged to join the Evans Park PTA to unite home, school, and the community for our children. Money raised through dues and fundraising is used for cultural arts assemblies, after-school programs, field trips, instructional equipment and materials, and similar needs. Please follow this link for more information.
We are grateful for the amazing support of our PTA and their partnership in creating incredible opportunities for all of our students!
Safe Driving on Our Campus
The safety of our children, families, and staff are of the utmost priority. During our drop-off and dismissal, it is especially important to make sure that we are following parking rules and safe traffic behaviors. It is important to keep our community's safety front and center.
When picking up or dropping off, please be sure to not block traffic on Marion Place and to be mindful of pedestrians. We ask that you do not park on the wrong side of the road, as this may obscure the line of sight or impede buses during dismissal. As always, we are grateful for your partnership and commitment to making our campus safe.
Dismissal Reminder
Please be sure to email your child's classroom teacher and our Main Office (at ZeppetellaM@PearlRiver.org and FreemanK@PearlRiver.org) before 11:30 AM of any changes to dismissal for the day. In order to coordinate a safe and efficient dismissal, we kindly ask for your support.
