Port Susan Middle School
Family & Student Update for 9.24.23
Love of Learning
This week, our message to students was around our Knight's Code in advisory. At Port Susan Middle School, our building focus is creating an educational environment with student learning the priority. I appreciate going into classrooms and listening to the student to student support in learning. In addition, I am extremely proud of our student voice that has been shared by reaching out (in person as well as through email). Every child having a connection that supports their ability to to grow their confidence and knowledge is important. Thank you for your encouraging your student to always give their best effort, accept challenges, show kindness, and continue to be their best self. It's been a wonderful start to the school year!

Sports Highlights
JV Soccer
Congratulations to the Port Susan Knights Girls JV Soccer team on a 7-0 victory over the Conway Bobcats. The Knights used great teamwork and defense to keep Conway from scoring. The play of the game was Emily for her great attitude and effort. Way to go Knights!
Varsity Soccer
What an exciting soccer match yesterday. The Varsity soccer team played tough against Conway and battled back to end up in a 2-2 tie. It was great to watch the team settle in and play a strong 2nd half. We had several fantastic shots on goal and the defense worked to control their end of the field. The honor of the game bracelet goes to Hadassah for being willing to play wherever she was needed and always being a positive teammate! Go Knights!
This next week we have an away game Monday at Anacortes and host our first game on Wednesday against SMS! Come cheer us on!
Cross Country Highlights
Stanwood United competed in their first meet of the season. Our home course is hilly and Friday's temps were warm but our athletes relied and on their training and raced well! Equally impressive was the way our athletes supported each other and cheered along the course. Well done, Stanwood United!

District Information
Operation School Bell
Our school district is fortunate to have access to Operation School Bell — a program offered by the Assistance League of Everett for students who are in need of new clothes.
To qualify for assistance, students must be enrolled and attend school on a regular basis. The process takes a few minutes to get started and involves basic information.
This program is for all Stanwood-Camano students in preschool through 12th grade.
For more information, please contact our Amy Hart, a Student Support Advocate, at ahart@stanwood.wednet.edu.
We Need Substitutes
Substitute jobs are fun, flexible positions that can adapt to your schedule. You can work a few hours in our kitchens or helping as a crossing guard or helping teachers and students in our classrooms.
We have limitless opportunities for passionate people to inspire and educate students. Remember that person who made a difference in your life growing up? Now it’s your turn.

When to stay home?
The Stanwood-Camano School District follows the COVID-19 guidance for schools and child care from the Washington Department of Health.
We adhere to infectious disease prevention strategies as part of everyday operations, and we are prepared to implement additional disease prevention strategies if there is an outbreak of any respiratory illnesses, including flu and RSV.
The current emphasis is on students or staff staying home when sick. Please view our When to Stay Home webpage for more details about what symptoms to monitor. The webpage also includes the state Department of Health’s updated guidance on making decisions around COVID exposure and symptoms.
