New year, new terrible school picture... That reminds me, picture retakes are October 25th.

October is always an exciting month at FHS. This past week many of the high school students and faculty participated in spirit week by dressing up in their best 70's, 80's, 90's, and 2000's outfits. We have some new faculty members this year that really increased the school pep participation among the faculty & staff. In late September/early October the High School also received the results from the state required End of Course (EOC) Exams and the ACT. I am proud to say FHS scored well above the state averages in all areas. This continued academic excellence is entirely due to the hard work and dedication from the FHS faculty and our hard-working students. Enjoy the October Board Report.

For the fifth year in a row Forsyth High School students scored higher than the state average on the ACT college entrance exam.

What is the ACT?

The ACT exam is designed to measure a high school student’s probability of being successful in their first-year of college, and to provide colleges with a common data point that is uniform for all applicants. Students are tested in English, Mathematics, Reading, Science, and an optional Writing test. The highest score possible is a 36.

Why is the ACT important?

The ACT exam has become one of the most important admissions pieces for incoming freshmen, with most colleges having a minimum score for admittance. Several academic scholarships are awarded to students with high ACT scores.

ACT Boot-Camp

In 2019 four of Forsyth High School's top teachers received training and implemented a free 2-week ACT Boot-Camp for any sophomore or junior planning to take the June ACT. Any 10th or 11th grade student who attends the 2-week Boot-Camp in June will be reimbursed for the cost of the June ACT.

The Forsyth community celebrated Homecoming Week with several activities leading up the Homecoming game against Butler. Our boys played well, but ended up losing to the undefeated Butler Bears 43-60.

Coach Paul Voliva's girls tennis team closed out another successful season. Coach Voliva's girls beat Reeds Spring 5-0 before losing to Logan Rogersville in the district semi-finals to end their season. Players Zoe White and Kenna Perez were all district in ladies doubles.

The Forsyth Cross Country team has competed in multiple events in September & October. Every runner continues to improve their time and will be ready for districts which will be held on October 28th at Lamar.

They Lady Panther Volleyball team began winding down their regular season with their final home game against Clever on Wednesday October 11th. The final game was also senior night. The Lady Panthers will begin district play on Tuesday October 17th against Ava in Mountain Grove. Good Luck ladies!

For the 4th year in a row Mr. Gailey will be taking his forestry team to compete at Nationals in Indianapolis Indiana October 31-November 3rd. In addition to the forestry team, Gabby Thompson will be competing in the National FFA CREED Speaking contest. Gabby won the State Creed Speaking contest last April. She will be competing against the top Creed Speakers from the other 49 states. Good Luck Students!

The JROTC students have been busy with flag raising, color guards, and parking cars at home football games.

Mrs. Voegel's Outdoor skills class has been trying to start a fire, without matches, for the past two weeks. The students tried the fire plow and the bow and drill method with no success. All smoke but no flame. The students finally used a flint to get a fire going and what do you know...success!!! The students were rewarded with roasted marshmallows and the sweet taste of success with 'smores. Mrs. Voegel would like to thank the district transportation director - Doug Muller for providing a leatherman and an extra flint. The classes next task is to start a fire and purify their own own water.

The FBLA members took part in their first community service project of the year, The Annual Shoreline Cleanup. Students spent their Saturday morning picking up trash along Lake Taneycomo.

FBLA officers attended the annual fall planning workshop to kick off the competition season! This year Forsyth's Madilynn Cook and Olivia Williams are district officers who helped lead the event. It was a great day of learning to become better competitors and develop ways to improve our chapter.
