TALENTED AND GIFTED SERVICES UPDATE
If you missed the TAG online meeting, you can access the slides here.
We anticipate completing the fall processing of TAG referrals by February 14. (see slide 11)
The winter family/teacher-driven cycle will be completed by April 25. (see slide 12)
IMMUNIZATION EXCLUSION DEADLINE APPROACHING — FEBRUARY 19 [REPEAT]
Reminder that the deadline for submitting required vaccination documentation is February 19, 2025. Oregon law requires proof of immunization records in order for students to attend school. If students are not up to date on their records by February 19, they may not be able to attend school until we receive current and updated records.

UPCOMING DRILLS
All schools are required to instruct and drill students on emergency procedures so that the students can respond to an emergency without confusion or panic. In the coming weeks, we will be conducting the following drills at Atkinson:
- Tuesday, February 4: Fire/Evacuation Drill

LOTTERY WINDOW FOR KINDERGARTEN: FEBRUARY 12–MARCH 12 [REPEAT]
Atkinson's Connect to Kinder events are scheduled as follows:
- Thursday, March 6, 6–7 p.m. (focus on Spanish DLI program)
- Thursday, April 10, 2:45–3:45 p.m.
SPRING STOPPS DRILL
PPS Transportation will conduct the Spring STOPPS drill (Safety Training of Pupils in Portland Schools) for all riding students on Thursday, February 6. Learn more HERE.
TALENT SHOW REMINDERS
Last call for Talent Show entries!!
The Atkinson Talent Show is returning to the Franklin High School auditorium on the evenings of February 4 (grades K–2) and February 11 (grades 3–5), and all sign-ups must be submitted by the end of today, Friday, January 24! Register online HERE or return paper forms to the front desk.
We are also seeking volunteers to help out at rehearsals and shows. Please sign up here if you are interested in being a part of this amazing community event!
We'll be selling concessions and tickets to win one of three great gift baskets: Staycation in Portland, Date Night, or Family Fun. Tickets are $2 each and you can buy them now at https://app.givebacks.gives/2025atkinsontalentshow.
LUNAR NEW YEAR CELEBRATION [REPEAT]
Our Lunar New Year celebration will be on Friday, January 31 from 6:30–8 p.m. in the cafeteria. Lunar New Year is one of the most important celebrations of the year among East and Southeast Asian cultures, including Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean communities, among others. The festival celebrates the beginning of a new year on the traditional Chinese lunisolar calendar. It is a time to honor our ancestors and spend time with loved ones. Guests are invited to wear red, yellow, gold, or traditional clothing.
There will be:
- 🍚 Vietnamese food from local restaurants: Banh mi (Vietnamese sandwiches), spring rolls, egg rolls, stir fry noodles, and sweet sticky rice.
- 🦁 A special lion dance performance from White Lotus.
- 🌸 Tons of Lunar New Year arts and crafts (snake finger puppets, Chinese lanterns, cherry blossom tree art).
- 📖 Free AAPI related children's books from Multnomah County Library and SMART reading.
- 🧧 "Pick your own Red Envelope" raffle with prizes from Fly by Jing, Hopscotch, Lan Su Chinese Garden, Portland Nursery, Good Coffee, among many others.
- 🏮Light up the night with lanterns for purchase (pre-sale and day of event).
