Spring Pep Rally
FHS held a spring pep rally on Friday, May 3 to celebrate all of the major accomplishments achieved by several of our student organizations, including HOSA, FFA, band, softball, and track. The 2024-2025 cheerleaders also got a chance to make their debut!
Dr. Porterfield (Principal) and Mr. Kirkpatrick (Superintendent) placed a fun bet with junior softball player, Charley McAnelly. The bet was that if the softball team made it to the playoffs, these two Longhorn fans would have to wear an Aggie shirt to school. Lo and behold, the team did make it to the playoffs and Charley had a special shirt made of her giving the Aggie thumbs up in her softball uniform. Another memorable part of this pep rally was the dance off between mascot Buffy and Mr. Hennig (Assistant Principal). See picture proof of both of these events below.
Junior/Senior Prom
FHS hosted its Junior/Senior Prom this past Saturday, May 4th. The prom was held at Moravian Hall and the theme this year was Masquerade. The event was a success and a huge thank you is due to all of the faculty and staff who planned and pulled off such a lovely evening for our students.
Prom Princess and Prince (Juniors) were Charley McAnelly and Weston Underwood.
Prom Queen and King (Seniors) were Violet Scott and Travis Antolini.

Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Ms. Anja Schaefer, Florence High School's Teacher of the Year! This is Ms. Schaefer's 4th year as a Buffalo and her 24th year as an educator. Ms. Schaefer teaches English 3 and 4 on level and dual credit classes. In addition to her teaching assignment, Ms. Schaefer has volunteered to serve on various committees and spearheaded the planning of this year's junior/senior prom. Ms. Schaefer has a rare gift of being able to see the student as a whole both inside and outside the classroom and she shares her enthusiasm and knowledge with her students and coworkers on a daily basis. We are so blessed to have her as part of our FHS team!
Buffalo Vanguard
Congratulations to Mrs. Clarivee Rivera, Florence High School's Buffalo Vanguard winner! This award is presented each year to a staff member who "demonstrates progressive leadership." This is Mrs. Rivera's 1st year as a Buffalo and her 13th year in education. Mrs. Rivera is our Registrar/PEIMS Clerk and this year was her first year to take on this type of position. She learned her numerous duties quickly and in addition to her heavy workload, she also assists with translation for meetings and documents. She maintains a positive attitude and is always offering to help cover the front desk or assist with projects when she sees help is needed. Her positive attitude and winning smile have been a wonderful addition to our FISD family!
New Ag Teacher
Please help us in welcoming our newest ag teacher to the Florence FFA family! Haley Foeh will be teaching at FHS next year and instructing our Floral and Advanced Floral classes. She is graduating from Texas A&M University with her Agricultural Science degree. She is originally from Cuero, where she was an active FFA member. Haley held multiple leadership roles during this time, raised and showed broilers and a heifer, and was a part of the poultry and horse judging teams. She has a strong passion for agriculture and education and is really looking forward to becoming a part of the Florence Family and this upcoming year as a Florence Buffalo! Please help us in welcoming Ms. Foeh!
