LHS Students Earn College Board Recognition
Four LHS students are being honored by College Board, the owner of Advanced Placement and the SAT, as a part of their National Recognition Program for students that identify as Hispanic, African-American or first generation college goers. Congratulations to Hannah Aye, Alonso Campos, Grace Thawng, and Angela Uk! These students are being honored for meeting the following criteria: 3.3+ cumulative GPA, being in the top 10% on the PSAT10/NMSQT, and scoring a 3 or better on 2 or more AP classes. Not only did these four students earn this recognition, they are also great Spartans!

Battle Creek College Access Network
Many may remember that last year we sent out a survey from our community partner, BCCAN. Based on last year’s survey, BCCAN has created a more specific survey they would like our parents and caregivers to take. Please take a few minutes to answer the survey at this link.
Advanced Placement Test Sign Up
This message is going out to any students or the parents/guardians/caregivers of any students who are registered for 1 or more AP courses. Now is the time to begin the registration process for AP examinations. The deadline for the high school to order AP exams is quickly approaching. In order for the school to be able to order materials in time, we need students to do the following:
Log in to their CollegeBoard account
Register within AP classroom
Return the separate LHS registration form to Ms. Wolverton in SSC by 10/25/2024
I have attached the form here for your convenience: 2024-2025 AP Registration Form
There are also copies available in the SSC and in the classrooms of AP teachers.
Mr. Allison stopped by all AP classes a little over a week ago to discuss these steps and encourage students to take care of the first two steps asap. The form indicates that the total cost for an AP exam this year is $99. $40 is due with the form by 10/25/2024. The remaining balance is due by February 28. Payments can be made with cash or check. The form also indicates that students who qualify for educational benefits – the program which was previously known as free/reduced lunch can take their exam(s) for free. The deadline for the school to order all exams is November 15, 2024. In order to meet this deadline and process all of the requests, it is critical that students register within AP Classroom and return their registration forms by October 25, 2024.
Please email your counselor or AP teacher with any questions or stop by the SSC and see Ms. Wolverton or Mr. Allison.

Spartan Sport Report
"To succeed…You need to find something to hold on to, something to motivate you, something to inspire you."
- Tony Dorsett (NFL Runningback)
Girls Swimming - The team had a fantastic meet against Colwater, winning 113 to 70! Almond Felix achieved a season-best in the 100 fly, while Allie Lajoie and Emmalee Butler participated in their first meet of the season with some impressive dives. They are looking forward to continuing this momentum in our next home meet on Tuesday, October 8th, against Kalamazoo Central.
Football (HS) - Varsity continues to work hard and make strides. Homecoming was a huge success and our student section rocked! This past week we had our JV team fall to Loy Norrix 6 to 18.
Volleyball (HS) - It was a clean sweep for the teams as they squared off against St Joe on September 25th. Varsity won in 3, JV won in 3, and Freshman won in 2. On October 2nd the girls traveled to Kalamazoo Central with Varsity winning in 4. JV and Freshman both won in 2.
Boys Tennis - Last Saturday the Varsity team tied for 3rd place at the SMAC Meet. John Yang (#4 Singles) and Eric Ryan/Tyler Duval (#1 Doubles) finished as flight runner ups. The boys also defeated Parma Western 7-1 on Senior Day. This year the team honored 9 seniors and their parents before the match. The Varsity record is now 10-5-3 and they are ranked 10th in the State!
The JV Tennis team finished the season undefeated! Avery and Nate Robertson were 11-1 as a team. Nate had the highest winning percentage at 92.3%. Brady Oxley had the most wins with a 15-3 record.
Girls Golf - The girls continue to lower their scores and see success. They placed second at the All City Tournament with 4 girls in the top 10! Amiyah Gibson took first with 35, Kayla Franklin took second shooting 39, Josie Pawlowicz placed 7th with 49 and Emmy Ruger placed 10th with 55. Amiyah continued to dominate at the SMAC Championship taking first place with a 72!
Cross Country - The boys had a great race at the Otsego Invite on Saturday. Both the varsity and JV teams ran really well against some very difficult competition. Racing the best teams around helps us to improve as individual racers and as a team. Many of our athletes earned their season or all-time PR on Saturday! We are extremely proud of all their hard work and accomplishments.
The girls Cross Country team faced some of the best competition in the state at the Otsego Invite last Saturday. Although the girls placed 12th out of 14 teams, many of the girls ran season records or all time personal records. Leading the way for the ladies was Junior Lilamae Frank, Senior Evelyn Calow, and Sophomore Amelia Kraemer. Also running great races for the girls was Madison Girard, Ayla Frantz, Veleria Hurtado, and Georgia Micklewright. The Spartans look to defend their All City title on Tuesday, October 8th, at Pennfield High School.
Boys Soccer - Boys Varsity and JV Soccer swept their games against Battle Creek Central last week. Both scores 2-0. On Thursday the boys traveled to Coldwater. JV lost 2-7. Varsity had a lost 1-2 in the last 30 seconds of the game.
