Cold Spring Early Learning Center

Spring has Sprung!

We welcome the sunshine and warmer weather as we (hopefully) say goodbye to colder, snowy days. With the warmer weather comes the clothing debacle so many of us face- do we wear a sweater? Do we wear a winter jacket? Am I still sending boots? The answer to all of these questions is simply yes. Please continue to send your child in with boots, and stick a sweater in their backpack as a "just in case." Fresh air and movement fuel the body and mind, so we will be going outside every day unless it rains.

Here at Cold Spring, we are beginning our end of year planning. This means we will be reaching out if your child is recommended for Summer School. We will be sending home questionnaires seeking information about your child to better plan for class lists for next year. We are also starting to plan for our end of year festivities. These include our very popular Literacy Night, Expo, and Field Day. Stay tuned for more information to come in the next few weeks.

April is National Poetry Month

This month we celebrate the joys of poetry. Jack Prelutsky, Shel Silverstein, Maya Angelou, and Alan Katz are just a few of the many talented poets that bring joy to readers. Click here for a funny poem about your nose, or click here for ideas on how to write a poem with your child.

April is Autism Awareness Month

This month we celebrate our differences, focusing on people with autism. National Autism Awareness Month raises awareness for autism and Asperger's syndrome. Autism is a brain disorder that inhibits a person's ability to communicate, respond to surroundings, and form relationships with others. This can be difficult to explain to young children. Here is an article with resources on ways to explain autism. Join us in celebrating differences on April 2nd by wearing the color blue.

1st Grade Art Show at the Stanford Library

Thank you to the Stanford Library for hosting our second annual 1st Grade Art Show. Mrs. Essery's talent in motivating students to create self-portraits is extraordinary and it shows through the student artwork. If you haven't stopped by yet, the Art Show is happening now through April 28th.

Stissing Mountain reads to Cold Spring!

A huge thank you to Mrs. Lyman and her Creative Writing Students for coming down to Cold Spring to read their books to us. Students in this class created their own fictional stories, and even illustrated them. Cold Spring Cubs will choose one of the books they liked and will design a book cover to match the story. If you'd like your child's cover featured in the Literacy Magazine at Stissing Mountain, please fill out and send back the permission slip coming home in folders today.
