Kia ora koutou Vogeltown whānau, welcome to the newsletter for Week 7 of Term 1 2024. It has been a week of ups and downs for our tamariki...

Ups:

Taranaki Anniversary on Monday!

Be Bright, Eat Bright show on Tuesday - what a performance that was. It was focused on healthy eating and even included a real live rabbit.

Cycle skills for our Year 5 and 6s.

And we cannot forget our action packed Taranaki syndicate trip to the Maunga.

Downs:

The weather not playing its part and unfortunately seeing our Huatoki/Paetoki Trip to the Maunga being cancelled.

A massive thanks goes out to our Taranaki whanau for their parent support yesterday up at Egmont National Park. Without your support days like these cannot happen. It was a fantastic opportunity for our young tamariki to go explore the place that their syndicate is named after. I can imagine there were some very tired children (and adults) last night.

It is hard to believe that next week is week 8 of 11 for this term - the term is flying by! Our Kaiako (teachers) will be extremely busy over the next few weeks completing their 'Learner Progress' reports. These will be shared with you in the first week of next term at our Learning conferences. The progress report will give you an indication of how your child(ren) is performing at school against our values (socially) and academically. A link to book these will be out in next weeks newsletter, but as a heads up they will be on Wednesday 1 May from 2pm - 7.30pm and Thursday 2 May from 2pm - 6pm.

A quick reminder from our Home and School:

Next Wednesday (20 March) is our Home and School Pizza Lunch day. Orders need to be in by Monday 5pm.

We are also in the middle of our 'bulb' fundraiser. Could these orders please be in by Wednesday 20 March.

Swimming Festival Notice

The Paetoki Syndicate will be hosting its Swimming Festival on Monday, March 18th, from 11:30am to 1:00pm at the Vogeltown School pool. Parents and guardians are invited to join us in supporting their children during this event. All children are encouraged to participate and should bring their togs and towel (goggles optional).

Just a few more days left to sign up for winter sports. Registrations close on Monday 18 March. Please sign in to your Kindo account for times, dates and fees for each sport.

Options available are:

• Miniball (Yr 3-4) Played at the TSB Stadium on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday night from 3.30pm ** Yr 0-2 Miniball already sold out
• Basketball (Yr 5-6) Played on a Monday night from 4pm
• Hockey (Yr 3-6) Played Saturday morning at the Hobson Street Turf between 9am-1pm
• Netball (Yr 3-6) Tuesday or Thursday after school - only 4 spaces left for Year 3/4 Netball, 1 space left for Year 5/6

It's not too late to enter the Weet-Bix Kids Tryathlon which is being held on Wednesday 27th March in New Plymouth. Once you have entered, you can join our school group. You can enter using the following link:

Today we received our Weet-Bix Tryathlon race packs for those students who have joined our school group. These were passed on to the students this afternoon.

On Thursday, the Taranaki syndicate went on a fabulous adventure to the North Egmont Visitor Centre. It was a very exciting day with a big bus trip, a hikoi through the nature walk, visiting the camp house and monument, and exploring inside the visitor centre.

This was a massive day that was enjoyed by all. Big thanks to Mrs Newland and Mrs Sleep for their amazing organisation of the buses and rotations. Here are a few pictures of the day.

A reminder to everyone that we do not ask for a school donation/fee at Vogeltown School. The Vogeltown Board opted in to the Ministry of Education donation scheme for 2024, which means we get paid a donation from the government and we do not ask families to contribute to any 'curriculum related' costs - including transport and events like Life Education.
