Sunset View Newsletter
Week of September 30th
Message from Jennifer
On Friday, our 4th graders hosted the 2nd Flag Ceremony of the year and it was packed with great information. Reid Litteken, Leila Kheshti, and Isla Corcoran were outstanding hosts. They reviewed last month's Habit - Be Proactive, and introduced Habit number 2, Begin with the End in Mind. To Begin with the End in Mind means to think about how you would like something to turn out before getting it started. You need to know where you are going in order to better understand where you are now so that the steps you take are always in the right direction. They also highlighted our many upcoming events. Mason Hernandez, Marilyn Ong, Dutch Anderson, Abigail Onorato, Enzo D'Ascoli, and Parker Spear were our outstanding Color Guard students this month.
Also during our Flag Ceremony, our Fourth Graders introduced out October Sunset View Cares Project, Socktober. Students will be collecting new socks outside at the Flag Pole the week of October 7th to donate to our San Diego unhoused population.
THIS WEEK IS: B WEEK
Please Be Kind To Our Neighbors!
Parents, I need your help again!
We try to maintain a positive relationship with our neighbors surrounding Sunset View. I received an email Friday morning from a frustrated neighbor. Parents are parking blocking his and other neighbors' driveways. This impacts these households as they are not able to leave on time for work and to get their families where they need to be. PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN OR BLOCK DRIVEWAYS. Even if you think it is "just for a minute," it impacts others and sets a poor example for our students.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Leader in Me
Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind
Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind is based on imagination—the ability to envision in your mind what you cannot see with your eyes. If you don’t make an effort to visualize who you are and what you want in life, then you empower other people and circumstances to shape you and your life. It’s about connecting with your uniqueness so you can most happily express and fulfill yourself.
One of the best ways to incorporate Habit 2 into your life is to develop a Personal Mission Statement. It focuses on what you want to be and do. It is your plan for success.
Friendly Reminders
Please bring in a Picture for Our Community Bulletin Board!
Please bring in a picture of your family to add to our community bulletin board! Pictures can be sent to your child's classroom teacher and we will take care of the rest.
Attendance
Please do not send your child to school when they are sick.
When your child must be absent for any reason, please call the office at 858-988-2000 by 9:30 a.m. every day of non-attendance, giving the exact reason for the absence. You can also email sunselm@sandi.net.
Any child arriving after 9:00 a.m. must stop in the office and pick up a tardy slip. Let's set good habits early in the school year to arrive on time.
Parking
We have very limited parking around Sunset View Elementary. The front of the school is now a 3 minute loading zone. Please be kind to our neighbors by keeping their driveways open and free. The staff parking lot is only for staff and we kindly request that you do not enter the lot. We also strongly encourage you to model good habits for your children by using the crosswalks. Running across Hill St. in front of the school and/or having children exit cars in the middle of the street is dangerous. Please pass this important message along to anyone who may be picking up your children (grandparents, child care provider, etc.). Your child's safety is always top priority and never an inconvenience. We appreciate your help.
