Straight from the Hardt
Hello Ridgeline Families-- After enjoying a little down-time over spring break, it’s all a very distant memory a week later! Great to be back with the kids and the staff as it’s always nice to have people you look forward to seeing.
The final quarter of the school year is an eventful and exciting time of year. For school admin, we live in both this year, and planning for next year. One of the challenges is access to my people and their time. As we look ahead to the coming year we have to gather their input on many aspects of our operation in order to put forth the best program we can the coming year. Once that last day of school is over everyone pretty much scatters in the wind, so our time together the next few weeks are critical.
This got me thinking about the proposals from the Balanced Calendar Survey that went out a while ago (https://www.cvsd.org/apps/pages/BalancedCalendar). If you haven’t taken a look at this yet, I recommend that you do. There is a LOT to consider when you really dig in to what it would mean to adjust a school calendar. Our state requires 180 days of school. From there a district has to decide what days to attend. From a practical standpoint of learning new skills and information, a more continuous schedule makes sense. Like anything, you have to use it or lose it. In general, that’s why I would be in favor of stretching out the school year. Once you take a look at the survey it will remind you of the many implications that families have to consider, with even minor adjustments to the calendar. Remember, any changes won’t go into effect until 25-26.
Ridgeline Accreditation-We’re looking for parent input: If you are interested in participating in a parent forum regarding accreditation for Ridgeline High School, we’d like to hear from you. The peer review team will be at Ridgeline on Friday, April 26, from 11:00-11:45, to meet with RHS parents. The 45 minute conversation revolves primarily around two big ideas: What is going well at Ridgeline? What are some opportunities for improvement? More info about accreditation is below or you can go to the Washington State Board of Education to learn more: https://www.sbe.wa.gov/faqs/accreditation
If you’d like to participate, and can be available at that time, please contact our head secretary, Molly Adams at MoAdams@cvsd.org. You’ll be sent a confirmation, or a ‘thank you but we’re full’ notice a week before. Please provide your phone number along with your email. Thank you!
What is Accreditation?: Accreditation is a voluntary process for granting public recognition to institutions that meet external standards of quality. It is a process a school undertakes to create a valid, credible reputation among fellow institutions, students and the public. Accreditation is a peer review process that is intended to help schools develop their strengths, ensure effective governance, and provide the best educational experiences for their students. The primary objective of accreditation is ongoing school improvement.
Who Reviews Us? The peer review team is comprised of individuals from our local and regional ESD’s (Educational Service Districts), with input from stakeholders—staff, students, and parents.
Spring also means “testing season”. Many students will participate in AP or state testing in the coming weeks. There is an important notification in today’s Flyer specific to AP. Please read this carefully if you have a student taking one or more of these tests in May.
Fee Reminder: Over the course of a school year, your student may incur a variety of fees for courses or extra activities that they participate in. We encourage you to start planning on getting those taken care of prior to the end of the year. If you haven’t looked at your child’s account recently, you might be surprised or have forgotten activities they have participated in that have a fee. We ask that families please log in to CVSD Online Payments and verify any fines or fees associated with your student’s account. Thank you.
It looks like things are shaping up to be a beautiful weekend, so please enjoy it, right after you take a look at the Falcon Flyer and all the great things our students are doing here at Ridgeline(like my picture here with Mr. McCollum and students holding cow eye-balls for dissection!).
Make it a great weekend! --Mr. Hardt
