🌷 WOULD YOU LIKE TO HELP WITH THE HCS COURTYARD GARDEN? 🌸
The courtyard gardens at HCS are undergoing a revival! We have secured both grant funding and donations to make this possible - but we can’t make this happen without volunteers. The goal is to create a garden space that is more self-sustaining and longer lasting than the previous design, which benefited the school for many years. This project is being undertaken in collaboration with teachers, administrators, and students and will create a space for all classrooms to learn about nature, the many uses of plants, and growing food.
Some guidelines:
Please sign up with your name and email - I will email you with more details prior to your volunteer date and let you know what supplies (if any) to bring with you (save your cardboard boxes - we will need the cardboard to line the bottoms of the beds)
Tasks are subject to change based on number of helpers on previous tasks and rate of progress
Meet in the HCS courtyard on your sign up date
Kids are welcome to come help too!
Please direct any questions to kol9@cornell.edu or call/text Kathryn at 802-922-4984
CVSD 4th ANNUAL PRIDE RALLY
Our school-based GSAs would like to announce and extend an open invitation to CVSD’s 4th Annual Pride Rally! The event is happening, rain or shine, and students, staff, families, and community members are welcome to come and celebrate alongside us. The event will be behind the school, under the canopy where the school buses come in.
The Pride Rally is an opportunity for our larger community to come together and celebrate our diversity, as well as support our LGBTQ+ community members in feeling seen, celebrated, and protected. Come ready to eat at the cook-out, jam out, hear from queer legislators, students, and educators.
This year’s activities include an optional out-and-back march into Hinesburg’s town center, and student-run tables with nail salon and temporary tattoos, pride swag, creating an art installation, and button making. Last but far from least, Vermont’s own Emoji Nightmare, a drag entertainer, will be joining in the morning to help us celebrate!
We hope to see you at Champlain Valley Union High School on June 1st from 10am-1pm!

WOULD YOU LIKE TO HOST A FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENT?
Hey, friends and neighbors! Are you ready for an adventure?
EF High School Exchange Year is seeking awesome families like yours to host foreign exchange students for the upcoming school year. We need your help to make it happen! Please help spread the word about this amazing opportunity!
By hosting a student from a different country, you'll get to experience all the excitement and fun of learning about a new culture, while also showing off your hometown to an eager visitor. Plus, you'll be creating a bond that lasts a lifetime and making memories that you'll never forget!
Hosting an exchange student is a truly unique and thrilling experience that will broaden your horizons and give you a fresh perspective on the world. And who knows? You might even discover a new favorite food or hobby!
I am committed to finding a home for Lilly from Sweden because I think she will fit well in Vermont. The following excerpt is part of the reason why!
"I find such joy in seeing new surroundings, learning about foreign cultures and meeting new people. Nature have always enticed me too, I have grown up in a family where we value the environment alot and its where I've spent most of my time growing up. My mom works with forestry and we have always lived outside town near nature. I appreciate nature a whole lot and I enjoy activities like hiking and walking."
So what are you waiting for? If you're ready to open your home and heart to an amazing international student, reach out to me for more information on how to apply. You don't need to have high school aged kids. Several of my most successful student/family matches were with Carol Richman after she retired from HCS. It's never too late or too early to host. It's a matter of finding the right student to fit your family. Let's make this school year one to remember!
