March 14th Newsletter
Notes from the Principal...
Good Afternoon Families,
Each spring students across Vermont take a statewide test. For the second year, the Vermont Comprehensive Assessment (VTCAP) will assess Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, and the Next Generation Science Standards in grades 5, 8, 9, and 11.
VTCAP tests are just one way that Slate Valley can better understand if we are meeting the needs of all our learners.
Our 7th and 8th grade students will take their English assessment on March 18th and March 20th, and their Math assessment on March 26th and March 27th. Our 8th-grade students will take their Science assessment on April 9th and April 10th.
The night before testing days, we are encouraging students to leave their chromebooks at school, plugged in and charging so the devices are ready to go for test sessions. We will make exceptions, as needed, for individuals.
Families can help by encouraging a solid night of sleep, a healthy breakfast and reminding your child that doing their best and taking it one question at a time is the best plan of action.
Below are some important dates. It may not be everything. New things may be added and it is always possible things shift for reasons we can't predict right now. But we are headed into the Spring Sprint and life can get even busier than normal. Spring sports, field trips, making summer plans, planning transitions to a new school year, and more can leave us feeling a bit overwhelmed. I'm hoping the heads up on a few dates that we have planned might be helpful. Keep your eyes open for permission slips and more detailed communication about these events.
Thank you for your continued support and enjoy the weekend!
