Brown School Buzz

May was certainly an eventful month with field trips, class presentations, a folk Dance, Memorial Day, and of course, our Fun Run!

Thank you to all of our teachers, staff members, parents, families, friends and relatives who donated, volunteered, photographed, danced and rallied together to make this year's PTO Fun Run such an incredible success! This year YOU raised over $28,000!!! These funds will help make sure Brown School special events, teacher support and garden program will continue for our students and families. It was a day of fun and surprises! Our Preschoolers, kindergarteners and first graders had a blast running outside! The weather was a little tricky for the afternoon run, but we banded together and made it all come together for our second and third graders with an indoor Fun Run! I'm so impressed with the teamwork from our parents, PTO members and volunteers! Special shout out to Fun Run Coordinator Karla Strobel who did a fantastic job! Thank you everyone!

Here's a friendly reminder for our rising fourth graders. Village School has an elective block once a week during the school day called EDU. Every student at Village participates in EDU and this is when our band, chorus, and orchestra ensembles meet and rehearse. All 3rd Grade families must respond toTHIS GOOGLE FORM for EDU placement. So far, about half of our third grade families have responded. If you haven't responded yet, please click on the form and make your selection by June 7, 2024.

Our second and third graders and their families had a fantastic time at our annual folk dance last week! Thank you to all the families who came out to enjoy a beautiful evening. We had so much fun!

While we are glad to be leaving behind the common winter health challenges, the spring and summer seasons bring challenges of their own. Allergies, mosquitos, ticks and more can be challenging for many of our students. We'd like to remind families that our students are outside for recess, often at snack time, and sometimes walking breaks. We also have garden lessons and many children experience time in our outdoor classroom area as well. Although tick activity in Massachusetts can be year round, it increases as the weather warms up. Here are a couple of resources containing information about removing a tick if you find one and preventing tick-borne illness.

Our Field Day will be on Friday, June 14 this year. We are looking forward to a fun morning of activities followed by a whole school picnic lunch and capped off with slushies provided by the PTO! While field day is not a Family Event, we will need many volunteers.

*Bag lunches from the cafe can be ordered. Please let your child's teacher know by Wednesday, June 12th if you are interested in ordering a bag lunch. The bag lunch option will be a sun butter and jelly sandwich.

Our Memorial Day Assembly highlights included gathering around the flag for the pledge of allegiance, the singing of "You're a Grand Ole Flag" and "This Land is Your Land", and our kindergarteners performing the Pledge in sign language. It was a beautiful day to remember.
